What do you do for a living?

I am a mechanic at a Kenworth Truck factory. We have had a good bit of layoffs. I've been lucky so far. I've kept my mechanic job and stayed on evening shift. Which I prefer. This week will be the first week we have worked 5 days since mid-summer I think. We have worked 3 day weeks the last 3 weeks. But luckily the pay is good and I love what I do. I've been laid off twice from here. It really sucks and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Especially with the economy the way it is. They are basically shutting our other plant in Seatle down for a while. Feel bad for those 400 people /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

LWD (logging while drilling) engineer on a drilling rig in CO and NM. I'm training to be a Directional Driller. We've been a little slow lately (or so they say, I'm always working)

I teach 5th grade in a public school, so I guess I'm fortunate. When times are good, I'm envious as all get-out at all the money other people are making. When times aren't so good, I feel down right lucky. I guess I'll stay all right as long as they keep making kids /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I work on the north slope oil feilds as a vac truck operater.I am a disabled vet ,I have been a truck driver and heavy equip op.I have been a driving and equip instructer and state tester.Never been layed off or out of work.I have never felt bad for someone that got layed off or fired due to them selves but I sure feel for the folks put out of work cause ther job went away.

Private investor..all that means is it's my job to make sure my pension, SS and savings don't give up the ghost before I do.

Retired 10 years ago after 40 years in financial services, last 20 in HR.

Interesting times, for sure.

I am a public elementary school teacher. I teach a dual language classroom, where I teach in English one day and Spanish the next. Had a retail paintball store in Mesa, AZ for a while and got out of that. I also help help run one of the largest online paintball stores on the web- http://www.pbwarehouse.net. We don't sell military type paintball stuff, but tournament grade 'speedball' guns and accessories. What is tournament speedball?

I've been a Sheet Metal Worker for the last 23 years, but have switched over to the testing, adjusting, and balancing field.

Hopefully the company I work for can keep getting jobs. I've seen many very good "Tinners" get laid off because there company just didn't have any work. Times have been tough the last couple of years for too many.

Im a crane operator in NYC. for the last 15 years. I commute 150 miles a day (round trip). I'm surrounded by liberals and thats worse than my commute! I got two years left on this job and I'm going to be making a change, I've had enough!

I operate heavy equipment and the last few years more big cranes than any thing else, until two years ago unemployment ins, was part of my yearly income and now I don't get layed off just moved to more work all over the country. when I get home I have a small ranch that keeps getting bigger and consumes a lot of time when i am off.

I am a Asst Service Manager for a Nissan dealership. We have been hit pretty hard by the economy. Its tough to see this time of year. I have a brand new remmy in the safe with no rings and no scope, waiting on some extra money. What a shame

School Maintenance Department Manager, 25 years next April.
I started to young, gotta a long time to go to retirement!
Unless I win the lottery!
Not to worried about lay offs. When money tightens for Schools, they look to the company I work for to save them money (Contract Management of Maintenance Custodial Grounds and Food Service)
Been a good gig over the years. Lots of moving in the beginning, but have been at the same school now for 11 years.
And I suppose there are worst places to land than Nebraska. (my wifes home state).
4 kids and 2 grand kids, 2 girls 23 and 26, second time around Boy 12 and Daughter 10.
Took the boy out today and he shot his first Deer! I do not know who is prouder, me or him!

I build and rebuild train engines for GE. Every year we get busier, 2200 engines this year and have 2500 for next. Just hired about 30 poeple. Wish I could hunt for a living, but that how it goes. Told a guy the other day, I was born naturaly lazy but never had the chance to prove it.

I am a Union Carpenter, and a Vol. Fire man/E.M.T. Would like to become a fulltime fireman but it is not as easy as you would think.

I work in Davenport Iowa and I am a machinest for a small company that works on Blowers & Pumps. Things are slowing down a little but that just means 40-50 hours a week.

For the last 28 year I have been what is referred to as an "Asset Recovery Specialist." Yes PC has even hit the collection industry. For the most part I manage the collections department of a bank, I seldom do repossession anymore unless no one else can get it.
