NY Turkey bird #2...WOW posted by hunt0168 and the following comment brought back several fond memories of such moments over the years. How about sharing some of your special memories and/or encounters to help us get through the withdrawal pains of the off season. As always, your pictures are a plus.

Great story, some of my most memorable moments have been out hunting/fishing and watching various animals play out their role. Keep us posted for the rest of your turkey outings.:)
Thanks! What we as outdoorsmen witness is incredible. I look forward to every outing and always find joy in even the smallest of blessings. There’s a lot out there to enjoy!

So many special memories over the years, its hard to pick one, but I always am in awe when blessed to witness God's replenishment of the various species occuring throughout the various species this time every year.

Drove up on this scimitar horned oryx giving birth right next to a two track. She remained completely unseen in the tall grass until the truck was within 10 yards or so, jumped up and patiently coaxed her new calf into the brush across the two track. When she made their presents known, I immediately backed out as quickly as I could and still had time to get the camera in action. Notice how unsteady the calf is on his feet and the mother's afterbirth still present. Mama had to stop several times to let Jr catch up. Awesome experience but makes one feel like an intruder.

Have witnessed many examples of God's creatures replenishing their species, but these were a bit after the fact.

Came across this young Gemsbok calf while mom was out for breakfast. Slipped in a grabbed a quick pic while watching over my shoulder in case mom came back!

Mama obviously told this fawn to stay put as she was no where to be seen

I was tracking a group of four deer, two large and two small, we had already put a long distance in when I saw the tracks head up a hill. I stood there watching the hill and saw one of the large deer head down off the hill, just a body moving through the forest about 150 yards away. I couldn't tell whether it was a buck or doe so I stayed on the track hoping to find the buck bedded on the top of the hill. .Slowly working my way up the hill. Upon reaching the top I stopped to look for the bedded deer when two fawns stood up and started walking toward me. They walked past close enough that I could have touched them with the rifle barrel. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the doe get up and follow. She got about six feet away and realized something was wrong. She was doing everything in her power to figure out what was wrong and it finally dawned on her I was standing there. Now panic starts to set in and she's stomping her foot and looking where to jump and realizes there is a tree on either side of her and she gets in kind of a squat and is back peddling to be clear of the trees. I couldn't help it and started laughing. It was quite a show. I gave up the track, I didn't think I'd get close to them again.

Sunrise, and the half hour before, stirs my soul. Maybe its simply the beauty of God's creation, maybe its the anticipation of what mysterious events will unfold in the hours to come, or maybe a combination of both. Whatever, each one is always a memorable occasion in my mind, some more specatacular than others. Each day is a gift!

I think this is my all time favorite; I remember it like it was yesterday. It had rained most of the night but in the hours just before dawn, a cool front pushed the dark clouds aside with temperatures in the 50's. Fortunately, I captured the moment on camera just as a coyote howling in the distance reminded me why I was here. The beginning of a perfect day!

And then there was this December morning in 2012, another ranch, another gorgeous sunrise.

Sunsets have a different beauty, which invokes a bit of sadness as they signal the end of another glorious day afield.
