Colorado Wildlife Commission to ban Varmint hunting

This shouldn't be any big surprise. For years liberal pukes from both coasts have been coming to the Rocky Mts. We also get them here in Utah and have our own wacko animal rights crowd. Luckily this state is very pro-gun/pro-hunting. Poor Colorado, a-hole libs have pretty much taken over the Denver area and some of the fancy ski towns. Wish they'd just stay the hell back East or in California. Let's hope these people aren't successful.

VarminterCO - Lots of landowners/ranchers/farmers/hunters over there who don't like gophers. There's no rule saying only the dipsh#ts can have a petition. So get your own petition going and fight them. If it can work for them it can work for you. They have at least some sort of organization, so you be organized too.

Another group that we need to make aware of this whole issue would be the bullet and possibly the gun manufacturers. If someone has an in with them. I'd hate to know how many bullets are fired in one summer alone while hunting prairie dogs, and so the manufacturers that make the bullets would have an interest in this issue and I'm sure would like to be incuded in this fight!

Just curious.. the general feeling is that videos of varmint hunting on youtube and such is bad? I see a few hundred posted there with lots of people viewing them.

I don't get the thinking that we should hide our activities so the antis don't have any ammo on us. I don't personally shoot them to see them just fall over (though I guess they usually do that) but to see a little action. Do I like to see someone else's action, you bet!

The same video of guys going to a garbage dump and blasting rats would generate zero negative noise. It's a matter of misconception that prairie dogs are some how small cute dogs and not related to the garbage dump rats.

Have we been brainwashed in to thinking we should trade our videos underground like some midget porn? I'm really surprised by this thinking within the community. Hide and tell no one and maybe they'll go away. Really??

I would not compare it to porn of any kind.....but claimbuster is correct. Not everybody likes that kind of thing and for the most part no one is going to change their mind. Personally I don't think filming it and selling DVDs of it helps. I don't need to broadcast my entertainment to anyone.
Consider that if there were no videos and no recorded media on the subject that there would be no controversy.

Years ago, there was a public service TV commercial that just showed the boots of a highway patrolman as he was walking and kicking pieces of car wreckage off the pavement. The dialogue went something like, "This driver was in the right, dead right."

That's how I view our situation right now. We have nothing to apologize for, we are not wrong. However, that doesn't change the fact that the general, non-varmint shooting public outnumbers us by a considerable amount. We could be in the right and still have the "huggers" succeed in banning varmint shooting. I don't know about you, but I'm willing to go underground so that I can continue shooting PD's (no pun intended).

I completely agree with you SKB, if there were no video's, no graphic images the "huggers" wouldn't have had as much to present to DOW.

What gets me about this video thing, is this. Two guys, from Utah, film their Pdog hunt, in Utah, and whoop it up when they make a spectacular shot. Period.

Somehow, the bunny huggers have managed to convince the Colorado Game Commission that that video represents all the varmint hunters in CO, and that the entire prairie erupts with whoops and cheers every time a Pdog is shot.

I believe that if there was a contingent of varmint hunters at that Game Commission meeting to refute and repudiate their rediculous accusations, that this wouldn't be an issue today. How many CO varmint hunters are willing to get off their lazy azzes and actually GO to these meetings, in order to save this hunting right? Obviously, not many. We only need one (1) spokesman, but we need a thousand concerned varmint hunters standing shoulder to shoulder behind him! That is the only way to let the Commission know we mean business.

But that's the thing, is it really a big deal that a bunch of guys whoop it up when they make a shot? Why is the commission concerned about what is said before or after a shot is made? All they need to be concerned about is the shot. Should that shot be legal is their only concern, to speak about anything else isn't their concern. If I want to go out in a powder blue tux and shoot deer, they should have no concern other than should that shot I take be considered legal.

That was my hope by opening this thread, people would be inspired to write the commissioners: Roy McAnally roy@americannorthwestrealty.com and Dennis Buechler wetlandsandwater@comcast.net who have gone on record as being against varmint hunting and are giving an ear to this small group that is making all this noise because they found some videos on youtube. They are rats, they will be killed by poison, fire or whatever means someone comes up with (vacuum cleaner?) the commission needs to stop worrying that a guy going "Great Shot! Awesome Shooting Dave!" some how makes us all look bad because we are happy the rat died.

The bottom line is, do you want to watch videos or shoot PDs. The answer for me is shooting. We don't need to bring anymore gas to this fire. What the videos have done is painted a picture that is in the minds of the Commissioners. We need to paint a bigger picture that out weighs the one they are seeing now. If we work together on letter that represents all of us would be a start. Looks like the next meeting is in Grand Junction May 1-2. That is the meeting they make a preliminary decision. That is on Thursday and Friday. Can anyone make this metting? The next one is in Durango July 10-11 also on a Thur and Fri, that is when a final decision is made. Not much time left.

Somewhat like watching videos or having a nice evening with my wife...a no brainer here.

I have it on my calendar. The more the better!

Geeze, it's on the other side of the mountain. I'd have to miss 3 days of work to drive over there. But I think I'll do it. Anybody want to join me????????????

Aw come-on Tom, the way you drive? It's only a couple of hours each way for you.

If I can drive, we could go together!

songdog here is the agenda.

What is the general timeline that the Commission usually meets?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meetings are generally one day long; usually 8:30am - 5pm. Occassionally a second day is required. The second day typically runs from 8am - noon.

Workshops can be either one or two days. If the workshop is one day, it is usually from 8am - 4 or 5pm. Workshops are rarely two days long. However, if a second day is required, it usually runs from 8am - noon.

Agendas are posted on the Wildlife Commission's page at least 7 days prior to each meeting. For more information see

Gentelmen, If I may....

This is a major ordeal in the big picture, i call it the trickle down effect.

The anti's dont start w/ getting rid of elk hunting, to much $ to get it going. They start small...i.e. PD's. If they can ban pd's and the population gets out of control, well lets see what eats the pd's? Hummm....Coyotes, foxs, bobcats, bears...Hell lets bring in a pac of wolves it went well in NM and elsewhere...So next is to get rid of predator hunting in order to control the pd population.

Now that the predator population is up, the elk, deer numbers are down, so now they can begin to cut into elk tags.

This is an on going MAJOR battle. I have been to several comminsion meetings where there were 200+ anti's(w/ videos of hounds fighting bears and cats)and 5 houndsmen setting there, and guess what happened....You can write untill the cows come home, but unless your there in person, you will lose i promise.

If im not mistaken you boys up north already lost bear hunting w/ hounds and baiting them.

Its a long term agenda for these wacko's and unfortunally they have numbers, money, and sorry to say it but some well educated smooth talking nut jobs on their side.

Just my .02

I think the only way were going to get the colorado game commision to ever listen to us is to pull the purse strings. they are proud to say that they are the only branch of the governmentin colo totaly funded by sportsmens dollors. I know this would be hard, but if we as sportsmen would unite and not buy that hunting licence or fishing licence for one year our voice would be heard. we have to stop bickering back and forth between each other, or they will systematicaly get rid of all hunting. one year is a small price to pay to show the DOW who runs the show.we also need to get the word out about Sportsmans Scarehouse to anyone you can get to listen not to waste ant of your sportsmen dollors there either.

I could make that meeting, that would also give us time to set up our own petition, right? I dont know if you can just walk in and hand it to them? If we can get one wrote up, I can place it in the busyist gun shop in western colorado, I could get hundreds of people on it, along with what we can come up with here.

Nasa makes a great point above, where are the mods and admin on this thread? is there any news on a PM statement? Certainly if a group of people called the pinko's for praire dogs can petition the CDOW so can a group called Predator Masters.

I think this might be way easier than forgoing an entire hunting season (my head spins). But if we show the commission a major hit to a retailer and say, next year it could be you I think that might be easier to pull off. I'll gladly shop at another store for a season.

No way I can take the time off from work for the meeting, but I'll sign/distribute/send back any consistent petition that is created.

I too would like to see the moderators chime in, possibly contact all the advertisers on the site and inform them how their lively hood is being threatened.
