Rank the top 10 coyote states

Ya know There are alot of coyotes around here in Missouri, and they are not hunted that heavily. Main problem is the farmers that won't let anybody hunt because they have cattle or goats (then complain when the yotes carry off a cople kids or a calf). I guess they know alot of people who mistake cows for coyotes... other than that it's pretty good huntin here.

Now that I have listed all the places I never want to hunt. You should all go there and I will hunt the states I really like to hunt ;0

Joe,

While I am as guilty as any for the commercialising the sport, I have never advocated paying for access. It usually boils down to lazy people who could have easily had the land for nothing, but they didnt want to put forth the effort. Some guys just have more money than sense.

Billy,

I was just razzin ya a little. Dont go off and sell all my honey holes just yet though, give me a few more good years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Heck some of our best spots require calling your coyotes across the New Mexico state line. I cant be too mad at ya, since, really I am smuggleing your coyotes into Texas under their own power. Almost like stealing I guess, man I feel like I cheated ya somehow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Take care,

Todd

First off, Texas is horrible for coyote hunting.....don't let anybody tell you differently. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Second, I agree with Todd....I would never, and I mean NEVER pay to hunt predators on private property. It should be the other way around and in fact it is that way on several ranches I hunt considering that I receive checks from them periodically to cover my expenses, etc. Those guys that pay me are the ones that can literally be put out of business by predators alone so they see the benefit of predator control and realize they need the predators killed. I'm no championship predator caller or incredible shooter by a long shot (believe me, there are people on here that will attest to that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif), but I do go along with what the rancher wants me to do and I respect both the rancher and their land. The bottom line is to do good work, don't do anything stupid and keep the rancher informed as to how you are doing.

I'll hang up my calls and predator rifle and take up another outdoor sport before I pay a dime to a rancher so he can take my money to the bank while also making more money off of a bigger lamb crop, deer herd, etc. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Heck, I've got enough costs to cover like gasoline, ammo, tires, etc. to be paying extra for the right to hunt someone's property. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It's all about business, and if you roll over and pay the rancher for the right to hunt then you're getting "taken" in my book. I'll let somebody else pay (usually an unexperienced predator hunter)which will likely result in the rancher having a bunch of educated coyotes running around and killing his sheep, etc.

I saw a classified ad in a publication here in Texas where a predator hunter was offering to pay ranchers for access to their property. I can tell you right now if that guy was a good predator caller/killer, he wouldn't need to advertise and he definitely wouldn't need to pay. But I have a strong assumption that he isn't good and he is probably doing more harm than good when it comes to the predation on livestock and wildlife. He has the right to pay money if he wants, but the ranchers that make a living off of sheep, deer hunting, etc. will realize that the money made off of the predator hunter just isn't worth it in the long run.

Just my $0.02, but I'll argue all day and night about it when it comes to predator hunting in Texas.

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

I really wish more people thought along the same lines as you do about California hunting.. The other states I agree with just because I wouldn't want to spend all year looking for 6 coyotes, but all those states have very good fox populations..

i am with rusty on this one
most of the places i currently hunt were by farmers that contacted me to come take care of coyotes. most of my new spots are acquired via word of mouth......."hey, don't you like to coyote hunt?"
"you should come out to my place and thin them out"
once you have an established reputation in these smaller farming communities you really don't have to work too hard to get access.....i can honestly say i can't remember a time when someone around my parts denied me permission to predator hunt....

If anyone has ever tried to hang on to a family Ranch in Texas then they should know most Ranchers are not RICH because we have money in the bank but because we have land that belonged to our people. My Granddads favorite saying "I make my money in town to spend it in the country". He died 43 years ago and nothing has changed since.

I know a lot of ranchers and if they wanted to be rich we would sell our ranches.

Yes the hunting can be good here but you did not hear it from me.

Gee, and to think that I thought there were only two coyote states - Dead or Alive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Here's the difference in Texas hunting.

A Texan that someone knows may grant free access to hunt coyotes on a ranch in Texas but if I showed up from Florida with my gear ready to "help out" with coyote eradication I bet I'd be offered a hunt with fees if not turned away altogether.

It's a totally different ball of wax when you're a known local vs a "tourist" which is what non-residents are seen as.

I don't blame the Texans because so many hunters that come from other places are slob hunters and I'm not sure I'd trust 'em or let 'em hunt my land for free either but therein lies the difference.

Would I pay for predator hunting access in a coyote rich environment? You dang skippy I would. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Think about it this way... People usually have a very limited amount of time for a trip due to work, family obligations, cost of lodging, gas, and eating out. They want as much bang for their buck as they can get for a few days of fun.

Paying for access to coyote rich environments would make sense to a traveling predator hunter rather than wandering around on heavily hunted public land with no clue where to go and maybe not even seeing one coyote.

Eastern hunters that get a double dose of frustration almost every time they hit the woods, really get fed up with the disappointment and would pay for some action in a New York Minute, and that's only SEVEN seconds... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We sit around watching videos about western hunters puttin' the smack down on coyote after coyote and we get our bowels all in an uproar and we want some of that!!!

If you can't find coyotes on public land you ain't much of a coyote hunter. The area of public land that I hunt gets hammered and we still manage to kill one heck of a bunch of coyotes out there every year.

Well Mr Desert Rat (MojaveJ) you're sure welcome to come to Florida and show us just how wonderful a coyote hunter you really are... I imagine you'll leave with your tail tucked between your legs like a few "studly" western dudes have already done... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Coyote hunting can be VERY different in the piney woods of the east and Florida can be especially "challenging". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Same thing here in washington state. They also do it during deer season complain about all the deer wintering in there alfalfa. But they won't even let bow hunters out there. And the game department tries to counter it by haveing lots of doe permits. But that only kills off all the deer in the state lands. Because every road going up into the state lands is private for 5 miles or more so all the state land behind the fields in the valleys is not accesible unless you want to walk 5 miles down the mountains. To get to the state land behind the fields. So all those populations keep growing, except way up in the mountains where everyone uses there permits so it is hard to even find a deer there.

Whats the matter? afraid of a little actual hunting???

Well first I'd rank Texas; Its just too big, kinda ugly in shape on the map. its way down there on the bottom when the map is on the wall, They let Jesse Branes move there and I know him, so you know he is sorta out there. Besides this guy William I know there, and this weird guy that came to bear hunt once.
Arizona is easy, Higgins is there, I like him would love to get down there and hunt with him and want one of his howlers. but other than that, he sprays pee all over the place and I saw pictures of some of the hunters, [beeep] I'd fit in so you know they ugly.
Idaho, Sly dog lives there, nuff said!! LOL
this is sorta fun.
Montana ??? shoot, I get em there so you know they are remidial coyotes. You smart guys wont be challenged, and besides its just too dang big.

Carl I aint got time to rank all ten.
