Sounds like a good set-up.
I tend to shoot pretty good with a bi-pod and a field bag up close and far away when conditions are good.
Now that you are getting a better idea of what cartridges will do at distance, what are you leaning toward?
A 280AI (since it is a single-shot) seems like a good choice...I know you like improved cartridges.
The SAUM and WSM with long throats also seem to be great contenders, as would be the 284 Win (basically an improved case.
One I haven't mentioned yet, which is a true wildcat, is the 284 Shehane (284 Winchester Improved).
Some F-Open guys are using the 7 SAUM at 1K with great success.
