Years ago, was groundhog hunting a new farm. Sat down on edge of a cornfield for a few minutes just to watch for groundhogs along edge. Stood up to dust of my pants, looked down beside where I was sitting, saw a baby copperhead there. Figured if there's a baby copperhead, has to be a mama copperhead. Never went back to that farm.
I have a close call at least once a year. Been bitten a few times. But I actively look for them and catch them so that's to be expected. Caught one just yesterday. Not a copperhead though. We don't have copperheads over where I'm at. Just rattlesnakes and a lot of non-venomous.
