I use it for comparison/translation purposes. Basically seeking to keep my records-keeping as consistent as possible, and account for the truly "I pulled that shot" scenarios. Gives a bit of an intermediary between counting a grouping you think is unfair, knowing you straight up messed a shot, or discarding the entire pattern. I just remove the one shot and adjust the factor accordingly. Actually I record both groups, with all shots and with the "pulled" shot removed, in the line below it with a comment added ;-). I like to keep it around as well so I can convert when someone claims a 1MOA rifle based on 3-shot groups; so I can go "ok for me that would be a 1.32in 5-shot group" (1.158/0.876 conversion). From what I've come across (as a n00b) it makes the most sense to me. But you're right, we can do whatever we want as long as we're consistent
