What rifle to use ?

Until not that long ago all my night calling was done with a shotgun. They work.

What about using an air rifle? If you can get them close enough, under 50 yards, a .25 cal or larger with a good shot placement will take a coyote down.

I'd go for 17 Hornet. I've noticed it is not near as loud as my 22-250 or 243 are.

Guns go bang. It is difficult to find a quiet one that has not been modified. It depends on what you need. You can easily kill a coyote with a 22 lr, the quietest option.You can easily hit it to 100 yards. Recover the carcass at night, not as easy. Same for an even quieter option, a crossbow. But coyote would run off and you would lose your bolt.

The best option by far, suppressor. But expensive and long wait.

Those are the legal options.

If I was to pick a rifle out of my safe strictly to go night hunting, it would be either my 22 mag or 222.
