IMHO, all of the above-mentioned calls are great calls, except the Hot Dog. I just have never been impressed with it.
In fact, I have every one of those "great" calls, except the Tally-Ho. (just haven't got one yet.)
I want to stress that IMHO, there are SEVERAL GREAT call makers out there in this world.
Some have reputations that preceed them.
Others, well, unless you are a member here, you probably never have heard of them.
That being said, I mean NO disrespect to anyone, if I don't include your name or your call in my list.
If I'm not limited to just a single o-reed distress call, then, in my top 5 are......
#1) My cowhorn-bodied version of the discontinued TT "Feline Frenzy".
{The call was a "collaboration" between TT & myself, when I fist started making calls.}
It has been, hands-down, my most productive call over the past 17 years.
#2) A TT 1-pc cowhorn tip.
#3) The ArkyYoter (Joe Bradshaw) "Screamin' Demon".
#4) The Verminator "Syco Tweety".
#5) A RR Calls (bearmanric, ie: Rick Robbins) distress call using his RR1 toneboard.
(IMO type of body doesn't matter.)
Now, if you want to throw howlers into the mix...my top 5 fave howlers are......
#1) Hands-down, the "Frenzy" Pup howler that is made by NCK Predator Calls.
It is a call that is "dedicated" to YOY howls/vocals.
And the shorter-bodied ones, if a guy isn't opposed to using both hands to manipulate the backpressure, will also do excellent prey distress sounds.
{I do apologize if it appears I'm tooting my own horn. I'm just giving my opinion, which was the topic of this thread.LOL}
#2) A TT 1-pc horn howler...or any howler hand-made by Tony.
IMHO, (in my mind at least), there probably would be a tie between #3, #4, and #5.
So, in no certain order......
Any howler made by RR Calls (bearmanric)
Any howler made by Kerry Carver.
The "normal" female-voiced, cowhorn howler made by NCK, which utilizes either the RR2 toneboard, or the 1-5/8" Executioner toneboard & a hand-cut .010" mil reed.
