Is Wal Mart discontinuing the sales of guns?

I've been in several Wal Marts and have noticed that many no longer have guns for sale.

Is this something new?

Thanks
KC

A couple of the walmarts near me have discontinued the sale of guns, others have not. its my understanding that only select walmarts will still sell guns, luckily my local walmart is one of them.

WM has been dropping guns from 100s of stores for the last 10 years at least.
They do have them in smaller towns as well as reloading stuff. In the main/big cities...they usually wont have anything related to guns or reloading though.

It may depend on location. The one in the city doesn't,but the one out in the sticks does. And there only 10 miles apart. The city one is a high crime area, whether that has something to do with it or not,I don't know.

Maybe its a regional thing. I remember Wal-Marts in CA had problems a couple of years ago due to sloppy record keeping.

I live in a relatively large town - Houston - and the Wal-Marts in this area are actively selling guns...

Speaking of relative....I used to live there, and what's the difference between a town and a city in Wyoming...? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They figured out its tough to make a living in either industry. Any stores that it was marginal in they cut back hunting and fishing or got rid of both all together.

Their considering only carring hunt/fish stuff in its perspective peak seasons.

Our WM doesn't sell firearms any longer. When I asked why, I was told they are going to close down firearms sales at 800 WM stores over the next few years. Seems the profits aren't high enough.

The Walmart closest to me stopped selling guns acouple years back other than muzzleloaders ..... They still sell ammo though and are almost always out of it when I need some /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They still have them around here, but if you are looking for anything other than a 30-06, .270 or 7mm mag you need to look elsewhere.

When up in N.Michigan a few years back, a bud asked me to pick him up some 270 ammo. WM was the only place around that I knew of, at the time. They wanted me to sign a paper stating my purchase. I told them to shove it up their *** and that they could keep their ammo........

I never buy anything gun related at Wal-Mart, but a lot of people do in the area I live in.... They go through no more than what's normal to buy what they want except for being escorted to the door with a gun purchase.. Signing for ammo is not one of them..

You Yankees must live in a world of paper...

A percentage of the stores stopped selling them a while back. I remember reading something about it. None of em up have guns.

Awhile back I was at one of our local Wal-Marts and the guy behind the counter said that the corporate office has decided to stop selling guns at certain stores due to lack of interest. Some of the larger Wal-Marts sell a fair amount of guns while some in smaller towns dont. To my understanding it is the ones in small towns where gun purchases arent as common are the ones that discontinue sales. But even though the one just south of here dont sell guns they do still carry ammo. Josh

Ft. Smith Arkansas just got a huge Target. I find it a bit ironic that this and all other Target stores I have been in have no guns, no targets, and in fact no hunting stuff period. Furthermore, our new big Target's sports section only had 3 fishing poles.

There are 2 Walmarts within 5 miles of my house, one used to carry firearms but dropped them 2 years ago. They still have acc. though. The other still has everything.

The CA problem was the start of WM stopping gun sales at many locations, that was about 1997-8. Cashiers who were covering for lunches & breaks were handing guns to buyers over the counter as they had no idea that they had to wait 10 days at the time, or that there was "paper work" involved.
After that all stores selling in CA had to pull all the guns for a few months as the ATF went over the records from WM. I was manager for WM at the time in Chico CA & Bakersfield...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The difference in town & city out here is about 3 people /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It ain't new it started a couplew years ago, after the Superstores running the small gun shops out of business in many areas they discontinued sales of firearms in Many stores. And only have limited choices in the ones that, DO GUN SALES. The excuse at first was that it was only reagonal then only stores with a high volume gunsale record would syill be selling them. I have a friend who was working part time in a Wally World. He told me that the main reason was they have very few employees who know what to do with the paperwork and they had so many mistakes the upper management who are anti gun for the most part anyway decided to follow K-Mart and discontinue sales eventually in all Wal Mart stores. Ammunition will follow soon.
