In reference to CAL COYOTE, The fact that brass stretches when sizing is EXACTLY why you only size AFTER trimming.

Dave

You mean trim after sizing. Adam

OK we have contradicting advice here. My understanding has always been the same as most others have said. Trim after sizing because the brass stretches during the sizing process. But I'm open to learning something new if there is something I've been missing.

A lot has to do wth the equipment used by the reloader.

Forster case trimmers (and others) use a pilot to center the case so it is cut square. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=614276
Resized cases fit the pilot better so should be resized before trimming with this type trimmer.

Wilson trimmers , on the other hand, use a chamber type shell holder to square the cutter & do not need a pilot so trimming can be done before or after resizing.

The fact is that a fired case will measure shorter than the same case after sizing, so most reloaders (IMO) set their trimmers to cut to SAAMI specs and trim after sizing. Those who trim before sizing can obtain the same results by figuring out how much a given case grows in length when resized and set his trimmer to cut a few thousandths shorter so that the sized case ends up @ SAAMI spec. after being resized.
