Looking for suggestions on part time income

I really don't know how to put this, so I'll just lay it out.

I have kids (now 3) 50% of the time, and a full time job mon-friday. Day time.

I have a wife that wants to be single again and is walking out. (please don't say sorry, it's really just my own fault for not picking wisely)

I figure out that i need to try and make about $500 extra a month. free on mon-tue nights and every other weekend.

Any suggestions?

Thx

I took a job bartending and serving tables when things really tight a while back. Did some carpentry stuff too. I wish I had a good answer for you I just put it out there to folks knew wouldn't judge and told them I wasn't above anything. At one point I was contemplating a job at mcdonalds.....thank the Lord I didn't have to go there but I figured there's not much shame in doing whatever it takes to provide

if you can score a bartending job at a busy place, and you've got even half of a personality - you can make real good $$ on a couple nights a week.

however without expierence you're gonna be starting at the bottom - which means you'll get all the sh!t shifts to start so it'll be an uphill battle.

besides predator hunting, what do you enjoy doing? is that thing (or things?) something you can turn into income stream on the side?

can you do your day job on the side for direct $$ into your pocket?

just thinking out loud

+1 quality furniture is expensive. It takes some investment up front, but a friend of mine rents inflatable slides and bounces houses. Seems to do all right by him. More of a seasonal gig,but you will have a longer season in az. I think that he does a grand or so extra after everything washes out.

dang tbone. did you just marry that gal not to long ago?

Tbone, your wood working skills are highly marketable. That patio table would bring some serious coin and doing just one a month would more than bring in what you need. The bed rig is another item that should bring over a grand easily. If you have the wood and time to build this stuff you could bring in an extra grand or more easily.

Thanks guys.

I have already contact contractors i know and told them to let me know if they need assistance and or custom stuff built for them..

I have been trolling other places (not Etsy that place scams profit of the makers) looking for people wanting things made. Challenge is that most people seem to not understand that custom wood projects cost more than IKEA, otherwise, take your butt to Ikea.

The challenge with a regular gig is that i am busy at my day job for IT/IS risk management, companies that need this don't hire part time night help, and also smaller places don't do most of it at all anyways. (so my degree and certifications don't help there)

I did marry this one just about 2 years ago.. Sweet as pie, super nice and loves my kids.. Until we got married.. Then pulled back a little, but just a little.
Then she wanted a kid of her own and me being all in, said i get it.. As soon as the baby was born.. Night and day difference.. She has what she wants and is going to live with her mommy (bigger socialist than woody, and Ardent Feminist) that is welcoming her. Mommy has been divorced and single since wife was a kid and wants to be that way (don't depend on a man)

I had hoped that it was a phase and that she would get into the grove and learn what being married is (never married and is 40) and what raising kids is.. Hard, tiring, and trying. But, you work through it, you get over it, and forgive. None of that is happening and she's hitting the door.

I think that i am going to have to turn to Uber. Making things on the nights i don't have kids, and every other weekend i am "free."

It just sucks and i am mad at myself for not seeing it, and getting into this mess. It's my own fault.

always been curious what those uber drivers might make in an evening of working 4 or 5 hours. any idea?

I have a couple of people that i have talked to..

They said that after figuring it out they make about $20/hr in the city.

They have to drive at least 4 hours a month, and work when they want and don't when they are busy.

One commutes past the airport each day, and on the way home swings into the airport and picks up someone going to the same place he is (or close) and says it's about 20-30 per day. (adds up on the way home anyways)

I was told that it's nice if you just take people at night to the bars and don't take them home.
Working around events net you the most. Since things like a concert can net a driver $150 for a 20 mile trip home from a concert. Pick up two in a night and your are where you need to be.

The fee is based on demand. (something i have learned today) area's with high demand get multipliers, the more demand and longer wait the more multipliers a driver gets. Then there are multipliers for those that are in a hurry.
I have the stadiums here, new years is coming up, as well as a golf tournament, two car shows, and a couple of horse shows and auctions aside from other events too.

Not to forget the early morning commuters that are going to the airport. Pick ups there on the way to work..

They also have another feature for pick up too. That is where you are picking up deliveries from restaurants that don't deliver while waiting for fares, and also with a truck you can get things where people this time of year buy things they can't move since they don't own a truck.

It's not ideal.. But, it's something that works with the time constraints i have..

That, or i find a successful business traveler woman that wants to move in and just date and pay half the bills. (that seems to have more benefits, but not sure how to set that up.. lol

if you plan drive for uber or lift, make sure you get a camera to record the passenger compartment of your vehicle.

there are lots of decent people who use thes services, but there are also horror stories out there as well and i'd want evidence going in my favor if something does happen.

i was dining out earlier this year and the table behind me, some 20something was bragging to his buddies about how he abuses Uber drivers and was actually proud that he'd been banned from several drivers for being a jackhole.

he was bragging about refusing to sit in the back of the vehicles - claiming motion sickness, or whatever - and then messing with the radio the full drive, including turning the volume way up, how he "accidentally" spills bottles of water on their seats - sometimes multiple times in a single trip, eating food when asked not to, refusing to get out of the vehicle when asked because of his behavior, etc etc etc

they were all having a good laugh over it.

i'd have been driving straight to the local police station and having him escorted out.

+100 on the camera for your protection...Here in FL we've been having a rash of claims about Uber drivers raping and molesting female passengers, plus a few robberies on both sides of the seat...If I were going to undertake that form of income, I would have two cameras..One that covered me and one for the back seat passenger...

A few years after I retired as a LEO, I was doing "Hot Shot" parts delivery for warranty parts for a modular home manufacturer...It paid for a new Dodge Diesel pick up and 20' cargo trailer, as well as letting me see new areas...For three years I worked part time transporting Disabled Vets to their medical appts...There are lots of niche functions that pay pretty well for part time effort..

Sounds crazy but I have made a lot of homemade soap and you can sell a bar of that for $5. It might be a little too late but I have picked up A LOT of deer fat for free from local butchers during deer season.

It's not so much a job but it's a great way to make money if you have the right places to sell it. It's best to flavor it with natural essential oils and those cost a bit up front but the turn around from two half days of work in your kitchen is good.

Be careful with the Uber and Lyft services. Your auto insurance may not cover you if they find out you are driving for them. Just check with your agent.
