I just read on tnvc site that using an external battery pack or any type of rechargeable battery in the ir Hunter units will void the warranty.

I agree to an extent. Something has to be pretty valuable to me to make me add it to my kit. I feel this is worth it. The chances of this battery dying at a critical point would be really slim I would think.
