I do think the "you'll save money" statement is a great marketing tool. I will agree, you can flat out reload a box of bullets for less than you can buy them for, that is if you are just accounting for the component(s) cost. The hardware, accessories etc, do add up, and most of us get into reloading with little to no experience so purchasing the correct equipment/components right off is unlikely.
I did exactly what you are looking to do, and I am glad I did it. Reloading has been incredibly rewarding for me, it is a hobby that supports a hobby. Never thought of it that way, but figuring out the process and fine tuning the steps to get an accurate load is very rewarding. There is in my opinion, a benefit to it all as it is a mental exercise.
