And it brings to mind a guy (and his dog), that I was friends with back in the early '80s.
This guy got himself a new Australian Shepherd pup, a little female.
For about 2 weeks, he couldn't come up with a name for her.
One night, we were drinkin' beer in the little bar in my home town. And he had the pup in the bar with him. (you could do that back then at this bar, 'cause the owner didn't care)
Anyway, when my buddy walked to the door to leave, the pup didn't follow him. It stayed sitting at my/i] feet.
Buddy realized it, and shouted out, "Come here, sh*thead, you stupid dog!!".
With that, that little she-pup got up & ran to him!!
From that point on, her name was "Sh*thead".
Turned out to be the only name she would answer to. I guess he had been referring to her as that, in conversations during those first 2 weeks, whenever she was around him.
And so she evidently decided that was her name.
