~*An ugly side of our nature*~

Great write up and pics 762! That is the craziest colored grasshopper I've ever seen. The snake definitely looks like a rattler of types, but I only know the Eastern Diamondback. It's a shame about the deer, so sad to see that. I've put a couple down in the past, can't bear to see the suffering. The most recent being a small buck that had jumped a fence and hung it's back leg on a barb in the wire. Exhausted, scraped and with a torn tendon and broken leg dispatching it was my first priority, then I let the authorities know. Much worse to see the suffering than to see the death.

That snake is a Northern Water Snake I believe. Lots of snakes shake their tails to mimic a rattlesnake when frightened. Bullsnakes,Kingsnakes,Rat Snakes and Coachwhips to name a few. Something had cut the tail off that one at some point. But it was a harmless one.
