223 ai

I will add that when I asked this local guy to make the first one years ago, he questioned whether it would work and if the gains would be worth it. After seeing the results, he ended up chambering several more for others who are reportedly happy with them. I will also say that the cheap Lee dies work very well for me and make very straight ammo, runout measured with a RCBS casemaster.

And I'll add that yes, the 22n, and all the 6.8 and 6.5 based cats are still faster since they are bigger cases. But I think for colony varmints the 223AI fits a perfect balance of speed vs barrel heat and barrel life, especially backed off a hair like mine is.

I agree with 204 AR, the better quality brass is with the 223 being one thing he didn't mention. The 6.8 brass is so erratic in weights that it can limit accuracy longer range, throw in the added cost of 6.8 and you can probably buy high grade 223.

Lee Mosher got some extreme accuracy with just LC brass. I need to study up on how to post pictures.

The 223AI with 40's will be close to 3900's and the 50-52's 3400 fps.
