222 remington

I just got into reloading the other year, first with a 22 hornet, then my 222 rem, then a friends 204 ruger, now a new 243 win that I just bought earlier this year.

I have many, many bullets to try for the 222 as this has been my favorite ground-hog gun for 25+ years. It's a 700 BDL, wearing a Nikon Monarch UCC 5.5-16.5x44mm scope and a Harris bipod. I just shot #41 & 42 this past weekend with it. Want to try BL-C(2) and H335 both, but right now I am in love with a max load of IMR-4198 and Speer's 50gr TNT hollow points. So I would encourage anyone to try these. Work up though as 20.0 of 4198 with a Rem 7 1/2 primer is definitely max load for this bullet. Accurate as heck though, and a gut shot will leave you thinking you were carrying a heavier caliber!

That Speer 50 grain TNT bullet is one of THE best 50 grain bullets I've ever shot. Another that shoots just as well as the TNT is Berger's 50 grain Varmint bullet.

What works best for me using an old Remington 722 action that's been trued and the bolt squared. Shillen trigger, Par Nor barrel. 21.5 grains of H322. 50 grain Nosler ballistic tip, boat tail. Lapua fire formed case and a Remington 6 1/2 primer. Bullet seated to 2.135 OAL. Chrony's around 2,900-3,000 FPS. Took this girl @ 100 yards last winter from the broad side. No exit hole. Picked her up, her innerds were basically jello. Getting out next week to start again with what worked last year!
