Picking up where I left off in part I, it was decided that I would hunt with derbyacresbob (Bob Morris) and Dogboy (Ken Holtz). I had really been looking forward to this, because I have been reading their posts for a long time and seeing how well they know how to hunt the desert that is compelely foriegn to me. These guys kill more in a month on their home ground than I kill in a year. Not only that, Bob is GREAT with a camera, and they were great to hang around with.
Ken kept me stocked in trail mix and beef jerky, and with the company I couldn't ask for much more.
We left out early, and just when we got to a spot that looked really good, we say a vehicle parked on the right side of the road with 2 huge men with ARs standing beside it. This turned out to be Big George Ackley and Murph. They were quite a bit bigger than use, so we decided to go back down the road a ways and try the other side. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
This spot looked promising too, but nothing showed. Bob supplied the pictures.

Ken was down below in the flat with the scatter gun.
We kept heading north, and tried a few more areas but nothing was working. We moved into a large flat that had a huge canyon in it that you couldn't see until you were right up to it.

We did see on coyote run across in front of the truck in this area, but still had no luck. On the way out we say a red truck and I though I recognized the driver, but wasn't sure. It turned out to be Richard Cruise that was checking out the head of the canyon where he had killed a cat last year.
We moved on to find more ground. On our 10 stand, we were at the base of a big hill that Bob and I wanted to hunt over the top of, but Ken wanted to hunt around the pond at the bottom, we split up and Bob and I went hight, and Ken went low.
When Bob and I got to the top, we found a Indian rock pile.

It dropped off sharp over the top, and we found a perfect place to sit on a big rock next to a juniper.

This was our view.
We could see a mile off, and I commented to Bob that it didn't look like there could be a coyote within a mile of us. This showed how much I knew, because 2 minutes into lightning jack, I spotted a coyote just 60 yards below us and charging the call hard. I turned to let Bob know he was coming so he could take pictures. He did a better job taking pictures than I did of shooting. When I turned back and found the coyote in the scope, he was already hitting the brakes and turning around. I finally took a running shot (about 40 yards) as he ducked behind the cactus and stuff.

I missed just after this picture. He was moving a lot faster than he looks, and he went behind the cactus and a few more to the left
After the miss, I figured I would get another shot and jumped up to see where he went. To my surprise, he had disappered. I ran and jumped up on a waist high rock for a better look and strained to see where he went. Then Bob spotted him high tailing about 300 yards away.
I came and sat back down, and we kept calling. About 3 or 4 minutes later, we heard a shot. It sounded like it was in front of us, and not Ken behind us, but we were not sure because of the wind. We gave it another 15 minutes and headed back down the hill to the truck.
When we topped the hill, we could see that Onefoot and knock'emdown had showed up.
