I know this is a little bit of a goofy question but I need to know to plan the way I will hunt the rez.
How was the weather this summer and fall? I kind of need to know if it was dry or wet.
There is other question but I may have to ask it when I get to Globe.
Does anyone know how big were the control burns that were performed on the rez?

it was somewhat wet this year, we had a few good storms that dropped a lot of rain. it been pretty cold up there for AZ anyway. down low in the high 20's and even colder in the mountains(in the mornings. it should be a good hunt this year. i have made a few trip up there and have called up a fair amount for the amount of stands made.

FYI- Right now most of the state is covered in rain clouds and its starting to drizzle 1.5 hours West of Globe.

I've been keeping tabs of the daily forecast in & around Globe on WEATHER.com. Highs have been in the low 50's and lows right around 30 lately. The higher elevations in the Res are no doubt somewhat colder.
I'll keep checking every day & hopefully develop a baseline of what to expect from Mother Nature come hunt time...

Clint,
thanks for the information. Has it been cold like it was 3 yrs ago?
Rustydog,
I am well acquainted with the rez and wet weather. I have always hunted the upper elevations ( because that is what I know hunt) and there are place that you can go it just depends on how brave you are and how much you trust your vehicle. The second PM hunt that I went to, I turned a grey truck black ( had a BUNCH of mud all over it, took 4 hours to wash the majority of it off) by the time that I left Az.

Sean, it has been somewhat of a mild winter, but still pretty cold up high, well for us its cold. its pretty cold in the morning and just perfect the rest of the day. i hope we get a nice dry overcast weekend for the hunt. from the 2 trips i have taken in there the past few months it looks like there could be a good # animals taken this year. it doesn't seem like it has been beaten up to bad. i hunted high one trip and a quick lower elevation hunt and both were pretty good. so if they have aerial gunned they didn't do a very good job of it. but heck i have a better time BS'n then anything, cant wait.

Dogboy, I was talking about the trees. There are some mountians in Texas and also catus too but not where I grew up hunting, wrong side of the state. Clint, I have to admit the BSing is interesting and informative, especially with Dogboy whispering in my ear. LOl I am really excited about making the hunt this year. Sean

I'm glad to see you fellas comming. But man you've all got to attend the egg shoot if it is at all possible. From what I've seen so far there aren't many shooters signed up and the prizes are something special ... Like last year ... If your thinking about attending the shoot will take place on Thursday at 11:00am. I know I'm shooting, can't say as I'll be lucky enough to win, but your going to have to beat "ME" to take the gun home this year.

Most guys, and that includes me, don't shoot competition. I've shot in some fun long range matches off a serious bench rest, but this is entirely different. It's set up so everybody has a chance to win. Very much like shooting in a hunting situation. Honestly, my win last year was .... almost .... pure luck.

me and my partner are shooting in the egg shoot ,,,,, Is every body shooting there predator guns??? guns they hunt predators with every day??
or are we talking custom guns with big scopes , hand loads and custom triggers, guns that rarely make it out in the field....
No matter ,,, it will take a gun like that to beat my box stock AR and factory loads

Well, mine isn't exactly stock .... but it has been out in the field killin' PD's an other stuff like that.
"Almost" = More luck than skill, for me it was like shooting a bouncing ball on a stick. Shooting an egg in the wind would have been largely a lucky shot, then the distance all make luck a large factor in hitting an egg. I suppose skilled shooters have an advantage, but in the long run luck will play a larger part, bacically anybody has the oppertunity to win. Speaking for myself, I haven't shot that rifle since the egg shoot last year. For me trigger time has been very difficult to find.

Man, I wish we could make it ! Can't swing the 17hr drive this year though. There's always next year, though the only way I'll get into an Egg Shoot, is if you're using Ostrich Eggs. Hope you guys put up lots of pics!
