Open Reed question

Hi all. Never having done this before, I got to thinking this morning, and I am waiting for two new open reed calls to arrive in the mail.... last night my husband made me a lanyard... and now I'm wondering, do you guys do anything to protect the reed on open reeds? Wondering if hanging on a lanyard, rubbing against your coat and stuff, if that bothers the reed? Does it need to have some sort of a cover?

Go to a store like Lowe's hardware. You can buy soft plastic tubing in sizes like 5/8". Clip about a one inch length off and slip it over the reed and tone board. Works like a charm.
