Trigger Advice....Single stage or two stage?

I'm thinking of putting a trigger on one of my ARs. I have it narrowed down to a fully adjustable single stage trigger made by "Jard" http://www.jardinc.com/ and the other is a two stage by Jewell, http://www.highpowerrifle.com/Jewell.htm also fully adjustable.

I'm not real knowledgeable on triggers. Anyone have any suggestions? I know the two stage has some take up before it actually breaks. Is it just a matter of preference or do you guys suggest one design over the other? (two stage vs. single)

Thanks for the help, Curt

It takes a lot of experience with both to decide which you like best. Most competition shooters prefer a 2 stage trigger. If you are shooting less than 100 rounds/week you will probably prefer a single stage.

I have read more than one place that when it comes to triggers, there are Jewel and then there are the others. I don't have one so I don't personally know.

I do have experience with two stage triggers though and I tend to prefer them over the single stage. It's nice to have some 'takeup' before the second stage. When you hit that second resistance you know that any more pressure and that's it.

I have to agree with what Matt has heard; "there is Jewell and there are the rest." I have used a lot of good quality triggers over the years, but very few can, 'read your mind' and go off exactly when you want them to. The best of the best are Jewell, Feinwerkbau, and Morgan. Unless you are shooting smallbore, the Feinwerkbau and Morgan aren't going to be available to you, but the Jewell is a "National Treasure."

It should be export restricted so foreign teams can't use it.
Just kidding there....

Good Shooting!!

Checked out the JPs. http://www.jpar15.com/fire.htm
They look like a quality trigger too. I kind of want the repositioned sear notch though. I have a feeling I may go with the Jewell. Still a little uncertain though. I tried Jerry Malbecks and LOVED it.

Thank you for all of your help everyone. Much appreciated, Curt

I prefer single-stage triggers in my AR-15's because I am used to that type of trigger. It doesn't make sense to me to use a two-stage trigger in one gun when all of my other weapons, which I learned how to shoot with, are in essence single-stage. That said, I prefer the JP Trigger. They install relatively easy and break clean with around a 3lb pull.

Good point Wolfer. Never thought about that. Might make sense to keep the trigger similar too the other rifles I shoot. Of course the triggers on my Galil, HKs, AR-10, FN, AK and other ARs are so different from each other anyway, it probably wouldn't matter. The trigger on my HK 91 is so long it makes a Garand seem short! LOL

I've used all of the above mentioned trigger in different guns. In the AR-15 in single stage, I like JP's setup the best.
I have been able to obtain pulls under 3 pounds with some extra polish work. (no spring bending here!)
I have put more than a few of these in for other people. They are easy to install by anyone who knows how the AR trigger and disconnect should funtion, but I take my time and fit the safety cam on the trigger bar pretty snug so there is absolutely no movement from the trigger when the safety is engaged.
