So as I've mentioned, I was unaware there was a designated Baiting forum and have been sharing my videos on the Night Calling page. I thought I'd start my own thread with some of my past videos. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them! LOL
This was my first kill of 2023 on my deer carcass. I had put it out in late December, and after weeks of virtually no action on my Reveal cell cam, my bait pile finally started to heat up. I got a total of 21 pictures from 8:30pm to 6:30am that night. Typically, I'd wait another night for a return to call it a pattern, but after thinking about it all day at work, I decided to try it that night. I don't recall ever having that much action on my bait sight in a 12-hour period. I got out and set up at dark. I think it was right at 7:10 I spotted one coming in with the scanner, so I switched to the rifle and began recording. I was really surprised the coyote never went to the bait sight. Once it got into my switchgrass, I went into panic mode! The shot was great, but I honestly think that's the first coyote I've shot with the 95gr vmax that didn't go straight down. I'd say it went about 50 yards.
I had this coyote on the cell cam coming in randomly for a week. It made several visits to the carcass on a Tuesday morning and again that night. We had some nasty weather in MI the next 2 days, so I didn't get out till that Friday night to hunt. It was a no-show and of course it showed back up again on that Saturday night. It was fully committed to the bait, so despite having to get up at 3am for work this morning, I decided I'd better get out there early that Sunday night. We had another freezing rainstorm coming in and I just felt like that coyote would come in early that night. Well, fortunately I was right. Saw the coyote coming in with my scanner around 7:35pm and switched over to the rifle. It took its's time coming in. I even lost sight of it for a bit and switched back over to the scanner in an attempt to figure out where it had gone. Finally saw it again coming in from the left a bit. I thought it was going to continue to my left like the last one had, but it eventually made its way back towards the bait like I expect them to. Ended up killing it around 7:45.
I had this coyote come in several times the previous night. After scrolling through the pics, I noticed that the coyote was starting to drag the carcass. When they start to do that, I usually feel like I've got ‘em. I saw him coming through the woods with the scanner, but I accidentally hit the menu button and had to wait until it cleared to start recording. Another bang flop for the 6.5 Creedmoor/95gr Vmax team, 31.5# male. This coyote was very identifiable by its tail. Interestingly enough, this was the first coyote that showed up to my bait site on camera way back in early January. I hadn’t seen it again until that Saturday.
