Hey guys. A quick non-varmit/predator question for those of you out by Chautaqua (sp) , what's the prime time for spring Walleyes? I've been wanting to get out there fishing for.... too long? I read that it's a super fishery./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks,
Perri

Say anyone heard any pups yet?

I heard something early Sunday AM. There were some howls and regular barks then I heard a bunch of what sounded like almost puppies barking/whining? It didn't last long and by the time I got up to open the window more it was over.

Are the pups big enough to do that yet?

Perri, I havent heard any of that yet during my turkey hunting outings. I did have several turkey days ruined due to coyotes showing up as my gobbler got closer! I tell you what this coyote is gonna get a lead breakfast if that keeps up! LOL ........ probably should start hearing pups soon I would guess. Anyone have luck in the turkey woods?

Yupp! Scored this 7am Gobbler Opening day. Tuesday generated some responces but got an eyefull curious deer instead. Wednesday, a nice misty foggy morning found my between two groups. The bunch in front flew down and went low and left except two hens. The other group just flew down and made noise. The two hens slowly made their way to me and checked out the deek, I thought two live decoys might pan out. well they did bring in another hen along with 5 Jakes who proceeded to poke around the decoy. I had just one tag left so I let them all walk.

Nice bird! We are heading out tomorrow morning. My 6 year old daughter is going with me. She has her own call ready and everything...one of those push button jobs. Perfect for little ones to use. Should be fun....will let you know if we get one.

Been working up in St. Lawrence Co. in South Russell near Boyd Pond. Watched 2 pups in a granite outcrop for about 15 min. Came on to them by accident. Heard one yep. They where down there rolling around playing and biting each other. No adults around (that I saw).

Just wanted to share this.

On Sunday afternoon coming home with my daughter, I spied something in the road ahead. The sun was right in my eyes, but when I got closer I could clearly see an adult fox with 4 pups scampering to get out of the way. My daughter got a kick out of that.

Then last night while dropping my (I guess future wife, I'm to old to call her girlfriend..LOL) FW off a huge and I mean huge bobcat darts across the road. Before the words were out of my mouth she says "look a bobcat". I don't know how she knew because she's never seen one.

So in three weeks I've seen two bobcats and a family of foxes. No coyotes though. Looks like next hunting season is shaping up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Remember my stories about getting snowed out near oswego all winter? I was there for turkeys on sunday and a nice coyote escorted me all the way to my set up position. I could not believe it!! He walked just ahead of me, at about 50 yards, for 1/4 of a mile. It was sort of a neat experience.

Guys,

I'm gathering info to present to the DEC concerning the possibility of extending the NYS fox hunting season. Please visit the following link to add your vote to the poll question. Fox Season Poll Question

Thanks for you input

Guys, heard some coyotes barking away the other day around 10 in the morning. Being new to this, would these be young dogs?
And what about them staying in the same general area?

Perri & Gang,

I haven't heard much from the local coyotes lately.....seen a couple out in the fields mousing & such, but no howling yet. I'm waiting to see the females out with the pups....I always thought that was pretty neat....

I nailed a spring jake during the last week of the season. I got this one while standing in some brush at the edge of a field. After doing a short series of calls, he decided to pop out of the brush on the same side I was on, and only down about 15yds. from where I was standing. I had to wait for him to get out a little before touching it off. Nothing huge (probably 15-17lbs), but I'm happy......Dennis got skunked this spring (which is very rare) and I know it really fries him, cause he rellishes spring turkey season. Hell, I got lucky and I wasn't going to toot my own horn....This season was tough, but, we saw several nice birds. A couple nice toms "held up" early on, and made things a little frustrating, but that's why they call it hunting...

Time to take my new .22 Super Jet out and smoke some chucks......got it a couple of months back and I haven't had much time to build loads for it, but with just the couple dozen fireforming loads I've shot, it's a tackdriver.
The 20" fluted bullbarrel...makes it look like a toy...very tiny.

Welp...Take care guys,
Bob

Hey Fella's,

Been gone for a few days.
Bob congrats on your bird. Raise hell with those chucks!!!

Just got back from Quebec. Got some more pics but need to get them in order.

Here's a couple of where I was.

Friends' 150 lb'der. He's all dressed and bundled for the ride back to camp.

Had a great time. No bear for me. Got some super video of a small one though. Have to find a site to host it though.

Hope you guys are enjoying the summer.

Thanks..........

It's always nice to head to "The Great White North" once in awhile for a hunt. They've got some nice one's up there.
I used to camp up around French River and Sudbury a few years back, and had done it for several years. Nice bears, deer & "yellow" fishing (Pike for us US'rs).

Damn blackfly's though..........hate them suckers. Not much of a drinker, but I sure liked that Canadian beer.

Well, we sure got them beat on woodchucks anyway....gonna get me some after 1st cutting.

Take care,
Bob
