Off topic: devastating twisters in the US and wooden houses?

Dear American night hunter friends, sorry if I'm off topic.... but tonight on TV we saw that the United States is hit by devastating and destructive tornadoes-twisters. Dead people (even a child crushed by a tree...) and destroyed houses. But it seems that wood is still widely used as a building material.... I ask you: why? Wouldn't it be better to use reinforced concrete? Surely the houses would resist much better to the devastating power of the wind....

Tornados have different destructive powers and are rated in Classes 1-5 based on wind speeds, one you get to Class 2-3, it doesn’t matter if construction is wood, concrete or steel, they are all toast.

A Class III tornado went by here a couple of hears ago and crossed Interstate I-75 near here, when I went to investigate the damage, the entire path across the interstate Highway was dirt, the entire road was ripped up and gone, ie, the tornado ripped up the asphalt and concrete off the highway, nothing left.

No building can survive that.
