Unless I'm touching up lawnmower blades I tend to mostly only use the finer belts and they don't seem to hardly remove any material from the blade.

The worksharp always seemed to take a crap ton of metal off for me. My son likes it for hatchet sharpening. The edge pro apex works great but isn’t very fast. And will put a mirror edge on a knife. I use an F dick sharpener for my mora knives and kitchen knives. Pocket knives I just have the knife shop sharpen them for free while I look at other knives. The hunting knives have been retired by a havalon

Okay, I gotta know. What is an F dick sharpener. I think I know? But I want to make sure laugh.

Have me sharpen your pocket knives. I do a better job than the knife shop.

Link to F dick Amazon link

Only for kitchen knives and moras. It will get a mora hair popping in like a minute. Knife sharpening is like case trimming for me. It’s just not that much fun. I do really like sharp knives though. Best edge is on the edge pro apex. It will do a mirror edge. But it’s more than I care to dink with.

Well that's interesting and not what I was thinking. I have something similar to that, somewhere, haven't used it in so long I'm not sure I could find it.

T had not seen one of those before. I do have a couple of pull through sharpeners somewhere, not quite like that one though.

The Ken Onion has gone up, $149 now. They're marked down this week to $119 if anyone wants one

I've always insisted on sharp knives but I can't say that I think doing the work is particularly fun. Just a necessary means to an end.

rainshadow1: "...finishing off my (Custom) knives with gentle pressure on a super fine slack belt.
(Tight, but un-platened 600+ grinder belt.) It put a very mild convex surface on the cutting edge...."

I do the thin convex by hand using 1/2 dozen light passes on #4 of : soft nail polisher
As last step, it can produce razor sharp edges (or better)

Guess I'm old school. Still do mine on a very well worn in Arkansas, then a belt, polish the edge on piece of paper.

Consider a Lansky system for a decent value sharpener that will produce a consistent angle. I hold my own using a stone and steel. If I want a razor edge I reach for the Lansky and leather strop initially then use my steel to refresh until the edge is gone and it’s back to the Lansky or a stone. The Lansky style systems that utilize a heim to guide the rod is a better design I feel as it holds an exact angle vs the slot style the Lansky has that requires a bit more technique to keep exact.
