A FLOUNDER

My wife and I have been really busy and haven't got to fish much. We decided to lay the work aside and go for the last day of the flattie season. This one almost made it without getting caught or gigged. Late this afternoon my wife sunk her hook in his jaw and then brought him to the boat with drag squealing. She added another about 5 lber to cooler just after this one.

If you watch Alaska the Last Frontier, i like Jane's approach to taking care of big halibut by emptying a magazine into it off the side of the boat.

Guess I missed this, It's a left handed Halibut )) Good catch and good size. Kinda like reeling up a sheet of plywood. When the bigger ones come out of the water is when the worms start coming out of the meat.
The guides shoot them to finish off for show, then the flopping fish won't break your leg.
Some old timers just tie the fish into a bow so it can't flop.
I like to cut the meat in 1" squares and deep fry in peanut oil, very very tasty.
