I am now using several different sizes depending on type of bait and where I am fishing and what I expect to catch.
Where I fish in my local creek around six pounds for channel cats is fairly common.In the river cats run 20 plus is common. Some pretty big. One caught recently was 103 lbs.

The 103 pounder was a blue cat, right?

That would be something to catch one that big.A friend of a friend caught one a while back that was over 100. His scale only went to 100 so it could have been a record for the state. He called TWRA they said to come check it but they were slow getting there. He was afraid it was going to die so he turned it lose.
This guy is a catfish nut though. Thats all he thinks about according to my friend.

Catfishing on that level is like anything else. Lots to learn.

I wonder why fish don't bite at times at all.
Went fishing last night and couldn't even get a bluegill to bite a worm.
Bugs didn't even come to the light.When bugs don't come to the light it's about as dead as it gets.

We use styrofoam dipped in a stink bait, brother has caught thousands of pounds this year.

The guides in the area were using large minnows of some kind, with barely catching a fish. Brother had multiple 128 quart coolers full by 10AM. Came back to the landing, took a nap, paid a guy to clean the fish, went out and caught another 4 coolers full by 4pm.

Styrofoam? Or foam rubber like a sponge?

Now I can eat fish at least one meal a day everyday and not tire of it.

What does one do with thousands of pounds of fish? Commercial fisherman?

I have a medium sized freezer that is nothing but fish. It have had it full several times and would guess it will hold 6-700 lbs of filets. With sides and drinks not many people can eat but about 8-12 ounces of fried fish. After doing and helping with about 4-6 big fish fry parties a year, 100 pounds of filets will feed a large bunch of folks.
One of my old buddies tricks. Ya get towards the end of the fish, add some more red pepper to the corn meal, tends to slow them down and make it last so all get their fill, lol.

Another trick, if your low on fish to begin with, make some corn fritters. Basically pancake batter with sweet corn and enough sugar to make it good and sweet. Make them first to “test” oil temp and folks will gorge on them.
Fried taters, get an apple peeler. Set the peeler blade to cut deep. Start cranking them out and fry the whole works, peel and all. The core part I cut into quarters like French fries. Don’t want the curly cues, make one cut down the side of the coil and ya got chips with a hole. I usually hit them with a good bit of old bay or SPG (salt,pepper, garlic).
