Wife messaged me here at work a few minutes ago, he made the scripted phone call and has arrived safely. The once in a lifetime experience of the yellow footprints has happened!!!

One question though, are they feeding him enough crayons there? Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. He is a double rat recruit, so he gets the 64 flavor while everyone else only gets the 32 flavor.....

Sounds like you need to book that flight for the grad.
Congrats to the young man. It's not easy as you know.
To bad you couldn't be there for the EGA, when he finishes the Crucible. I know I would love to be there on that day for one of mine if they make that choice.

The EGA presentation is new to me (I graduated 35 years ago this month) but believe me, I have watched it a million times on Youtube. We are going to drive down and then spend the weekend with some friends. My wife is also a Marine and she somehow pulled some strings and we will be staying at the hostess house on base wed and thu night right before graduation on fri.

Well, he has completed the Crucible and we only have 6 days until we see him!!!
The took 5 of 8 scored events:
Initial drill
The range
The comprehensive exam
Final PFT
Final drill
They are their Senior Drill Instructors first Honor platoon!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
His 10 days leave are up and he is now with Hotel Co. at SOI's MCTB west. After MCT, he heads off to Aviation rescue/fire fighter school and then the fleet. His original MOS was Aviation Ordnance but he was given the choice to go ARFF and took it.
The transformation was quite visible and we are very proud of him!!!

He has graduated the Marine Corps School of Infantry's Marine Combat Training today and after a few MOS specific physicals, he heads off to his MOS school for combat rescue firefighter, upon completion of his MOS school, he heads out to S.E.R.E. school and finally the fleet. His PDS is still unknown but he is hoping for MCAS Iwakuni in Japan. I have no words.....

Good deal, still going for the fire rescue MOS? Yup, he graduated the ARFF academy today and is headed home for leave for two weeks as I type this. His PDS is Camp Foster, Okinawa and he is VERY excited. The past 9 months have been quite a ride!!!

Probably get stereo and camera equipment over there, it's cheaper. Great island to scuba dive at too. I did all that when I was there. Wingers have it better than ground guys, so He'll have some fun.

He just made Lance Corporal meritoriously. He is on the flight line at Futenma ARFF and is loving it so far!!!

Hope you don't mind my adding a short story. It's how once a Marine always a Marine.
My deceased brother struck up a relationship with an old timer that had served in the Marine Corp. The fella was always calling my brother asking him to go over and help him with a gunsmithing problem. The old Marine was always complaining that he didn't have a suitable bench to shoot from. So, my brother built him one and surprised him with it. We unloaded it as he came out his front door. My brother told him it was his. We had put a small plaque at the front of the table and my bro asked him to read it. Here stood this old veteran of the 1st Marines and Chosin Reservoir, shaking as he read the plaque. His eyes were glistening as he thanked us. The plaque had his name on it and...Not as lean, not as mean, but, still a Marine. It was a very emotional moment for all of us. So, I'm sure your son will also be a Marine for life. May he fare well and come home safely.

My wife, daughter and I just got back to the airport in Inchon, S.K.
We visited the beach where the amphibious invasion took place. I have trod the sands my dad walked on 69 years ago....
We head out in about an hour to spend a week with our son on Oki. He has a week off and hasn't seen his big sister in quite some time.
Trip of a lifetime!!!
PS: Was kinda cool being here the same time President Trump crossed the border to the north of us!!!

We got home safe several days ago from Okinawa, he had a week off and we the vacation of a lifetime!!! We were able to bring our daughter with us and she had a blast. He was very happy to see his big sister. She has loved Japanese culture since she was tiny and surprised us all with her very good working knowledge of Japanese!!! She was a fine interpreter to say the least.
He is doing well and has 8 months left at MCAS Futenma and then PCS's to the states somewhere.
