From a Military Dad

I wrote this back in 2003 while my son was deployed with the Marines, reading some post here reminded me of those days,,

Someone’s Son

He’s tall, short, muscular, or skinny
White, Black, Latino or a mixture of many
High school grad maybe college too,
He felt joining the military was the thing to do,

Doesn’t remember the Birthday of Mom or Dad,
But sure remembers the first car he had,
Couldn’t get him outta bed,
Now he’s up at dawn cleaning the head,

Thinks he wants to see combat really bad
Doesn’t care if it’s Afghanistan or Baghdad,
His Country’s safety is his concern,
America’s enemies he just wants to burn,

Presidents send them of to war,
Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps
Here it is America’s Thanksgiving,
Remember the fallen and the living,

While gathered here for this food and fellowship,
Never let them from our memories slip,
Remember the Mom’s and Dad’s every one,
That gallant boy is Someone’s Son!
