I would like to load some CFE-223 in my 20 Practical curious if anyone has tried it?? Is 27 Grains a good place to start?

Thanks

I haven't shot it an Hodgdon doesn't list it but looking at the 204 stuff you are below that but in a 40 you are only about 0.3 below their starting load. Comparing the 20 TACTICAL that is slightly less capacity than the PRACTICAL and the 204 a MAX load in two powders I looked at in the TACTICAL was right at the STARTING load for a 204.

I would back it down another 1.5 grains and start at 25.5 for a cushion if no one chimes in with some data.

I just ran that thru my Quick Load program. Says to start at 25 grains of your powder. It also says the fastest and most accurate powders will be H4895, H322 and IMR 8208 all starting around 25g.

I would have done that but there is no bullet weight listed for his question.

I have used it in the 20 Tac which is similar with the 35gr Berger up to 28.5gr so starting slightly below 27gr and working from there is probably good advice.

I tested cfe in my 20P.The loads below were NOT hot in my BHE P3 bbl, pressure signs not there, primers rounded.
Groups not that exciting overall.
The same loads using blc2 were even smaller so I stopped using cfe.
Seems CFE gives fair speed, but never really gave me cloverleaf groups.
All seated at 2.260" in my AR15 build.
28g cfe, 35g berger, 3648 fps, .667"
28g cfe, 34g dogtown, 3665 fps
27.5g cfe, 34g dogtown, 3626 fps
28g cfe, 32g vmax, 3738 fps, .967"
27.5g cfe, 32g nbt, 3633 fps, .800"
