Santa Ana and his Army were riding in a valley, heading toward the Alamo when he spotted a lone rider on the hill adjacent to the valley observing his troops.

Santa Ana turned and ordered, "Juan, take a couple of men and kill that gringo before he warns the Alamo we are approaching."

Juan and two of his men rode toward the ridge and just before they got to the gringo, he dropped over the crest out of sight of the main column. Shots were fired and soon, the gringo re-appeared.

Santa Ana was unhappy and snapped, "Pablo, take a squad and kill that gringo!" As Juan and his 10 man squad approached the gringo, he once again disappeared over the ridge. More shots were fired and again, the gringo re-appeared shadowing Santa Ana's column.

Incensed, Santa Ana commanded, "Lt. Abrego, take your platoon and get that gringo!" The Lt. replied, Si, mi general as he started to ride off in a cloud of dust. Just then, Pablo, wounded and tattered, crawled up and shouthed, "Wait, wait...come back eees a trap. There's TWO gringos over there."
