Thanks for posting this up. I'm just curious where the information is from. I've heard lots of people talk about hunting non-game animals with cans in Montana but when I called I was told they are illegal to hunt with period.

Don't believe everything you see or hear... Contact the head GFP of the state... I've had big name wardens in my state tell me I couldn't hunt ANYTHING with a can... whether they were misinformed, or just putting up a front, either way they didn't know what the [beeep] they were talking about.
Think of it this way, ask the average politician what an MOA is, or a Suppressor, or an 8lb keg of Varget, they'll look at you like your crazy.
It can be a similar instance with the state, not everyone knows the info they should for their roll... I suggest contacting multiple Wardens, I know a few fellas who kill 400+ a year in that state, who would know the legalities of running a can.

Then the gunshows.... I'll tell ya, they really come out of the woodwork for those happenings, a good 25% of the fellas that stop by our booth tell us what we are doing is illegal... It's hard to know where to begin informing them with the facts.

most states now have the current regs posted online. either get a copy & highlight the relevant parts, put that in your pack, or find it online, print it out & take it with you.

My approach to such disputes is to be calm & respectful. "I'm sorry if I've misunderstood the regs, I have a copy here. Would you mind looking at this with me so I can see where I got it wrong? I thought this part here says (whatever is in question)".

One caveat is that the regs they distribute to the public are usually not the actual laws, and the actual laws are what controls. So the regs could say something that isn't in fact in compliance with the law itself.

I have a email from the head man of the MO dept of Conservation saying I can hunt anything here with a can just in case I run into one of his officers that is misinformed. Never had to use it.

Most Game Officers just want to shoot it when they see I have one. smile I have most of their phone #'s now and they say let me know if you see any thing that isn't right and flag me down when they see me out hunting just to shoot the breeze and my weapon. smile

I am not sure I see that correctly. In Alaska there are no regs disallowing cans. You have one, you use one, anywhere you want.

You can add Minnesota to that list. I believe July 1st we can own and hunt with beginning August 1st. Never thought legislation would pass, but it passed with a veto proof majority. Trust already done, will be ordering a can next month.

Other than NFA laws, Nevada is the same way. Including big game.

All that was needed to pass the bill was an add on allowing convicted felons to vote, I guess that will clean up some of the DFL supported illegal voting.

starting Jan 1, 2016 you'll be alowed to hunt with a suppressor in Maine.

1. you must legally own one.
2. you need a permit to hunt with one issued by the DIFW comisionor, good for 3 years.

I can't see the attachment so this may be on there, but Oklahoma does allow hunting with suppressors on privately owned land with land owner's permission. WMA's and other public hunting isn't allowed with suppressors.

Effective April 2015, Montanas new laws went into effect and it now allows suppressors for ALL HUNTING INCLUDING BIG GAME. There are now NO restrictions on their use in the field. Pretty amazing.

I'd love to see some of the New England states allow it for hunting. I know it has been filed in New Hampshire.

NEW HAMPSHIRE: HB 500 SIGNED INTO LAW–SUPPRESSOR HUNTING NOW LEGAL
Written by ASA on June 10, 2016 - Comments
The American Suppressor Association is proud to announce that after 3 years and a lot of teamwork, suppressor hunting is now legal in the Granite State! Earlier today, Gov. Maggie Hassan signed Rep. John Burt’s (R-Hillsborough)HB 500 into law, making New Hampshire the 40th state to legalize suppressor hunting. We could not be more proud to have been part of the team that got this bill introduced, passed through both houses of the legislature, and finally signed into law!

!!!!!!!! Finally in the state I live in!!!!!

Sorry I missed your post but congrats. In Michigan, the DNR tried to pull a little stunt by BSing the Natural Resourse Commissioners (who didn't have a clue) at the last minute that caught everyone off guard (max dB restrictions, no sub-sonic ammo etc..).

It was a combo of phone calls and respectful yet factual letters to the commissioners, attendance at the next meeting by supporters, groups like NRA and especially the ASA. I personally worked with my local State Rep who is very pre 2A who ended up having a meeting with the chairman ahead of the meeting. In the end it passed with one libtard on the commission still voting against it (note: it's not uncommon to find many antis in positions of power at the State level when it comes to our hunting rights).

Our next battle is to remove the ridiculous centerfire at night restrictions.

If your State still hasn't approved them for hunting and you live in a free State vs. a commie State, the blueprint has been shown how to make it happen. The more States that approve them for hunting will go a long way to helping the Hearing Protection Act getting signed (if the right person is elected President).

Now that MUCC has adopted a resolution for Centerfire at Night we stand a good chance of getting this through before fall....

Bob,

Thanks for your hard work on this issue including creating the petitions we signed. Read your page, looks like I better start studying the differences between a coyote and a wolf so I don't accidently shoot one, now if you're with the Michigan DNR and reading this THE PREVIOUS STATEMENT WAS SARCASM. It's unbelievable thats even on the radar.

Now back on topic, I want to hunt predators at night in Michigan with a centerfire rifle AND my suppressors, we're halfway there.

Thanks for the kind words and signing the petition. I had a lot of help once things got going so trust me this was not just me.

It has been an interesting time for sure. I hate the political machine we have been up against. This wolf thing is absurd.

We will know more after next Thursday's NRC meeting. I will be updating the FB page afterwards.

Several years ago when I got my suppressor, I just called my local warden, he said he really wasn’t sure and would get back to me. He calls back a couple days later and said he had talked to other wardens and that there was nothing in the Missouri wildlife code that said you couldn’t. Gave me the green light.
