Guys, this thread/topic was initially set up for solid information on Full Custom Builds and any opinions or discussions must be kept on personal observations of the same nature...

Heresay and other discussion items will be deleted summarily...

I built this rifle with the idea of a "do all."

Goal weight was 7.5lbs "all up" and that was achieved.

Vanguard Action.

22-250

1-8" Douglas Stainless #2 cut @ 21"

Talley LW's

M8 6X42 with M1's.

McMillan Sako Classic.

Timney Trigger.

Bedded and Krylon'd by me. Sticker was also installed by me.

Shoots the 75gr A-Max @ 3,300fps.

Couple 500+ yarders died this day.

55gr. TTSX has the same POI as the 75gr A-Max out to 350. Rifle works on running whitetails in river bottoms too...

Tough all around build to beat in my experience. But I'll keep tryin'...

But i can only imagine that after 100 yds is where everything starts to really show, as far as quality parts.

The main difference I have seen in McMillans is simply consistency. Not just group size but actual repeatability at distant targets. I've had some great rifles in other stocks but the rifles I have bedded in McMillans simply never shift. They are the same all the time. Rain, snow, hot, cold, doesn't matter.

The other nice thing about McMillans is the variety of options combined with the weight of the stocks. Very tough to beat an EDGE stock when trying to build a true lightweight rig.

K22, you are in the right direction with the trued action and new barrel. You are also fortunate that you likely live within a few miles of North Wilkesboro. Leonard Baity runs his custom gun shop there and turns out some really nice stuff. There are others who are equally qualified in Thomasville and near Raleigh. For the cost of a 700 action and truing you can get a Stiller action, put on a quality barrel and Jewell trigger and you are just about there. A nice bedded stock, one piece base and good rings and you will have a fine shooter that you will be proud of. The last three builds I had done were .221 Fireball, .223 Remington, and .358 Winchester and they all shoot far better than I can. A custom rifle, built to your specifications is a wonderful thing to behold. If the wife gets involved you end up with pink stocks with flowers instead of a universally accepted camo pattern.

I have had this one in the works since Dec. 2012. It turned out better than I have imagined. Here are the specs

Question for the custom guys, Witch custom actions would accept Remmy 700 Parts such as trigger and stock and a Custom barrel already threaded for the 700. I think the Stiller action is. Correct me if I am wrong. Are there any others...Jason

Gun was a 17/204 in a McMilan smithed by Kevin Weaver.
