Man gets visit for a picture of his son holding a gun

This is what background checks are about. Not making sure a criminal doesn't get a gun. It's about knowing what guns you have in your home. Then finding a reason to take them. Many people would have been intimidated into opening their safe and I guarantee he would have never seen his firearms again.

Everyone needs to know their rights. This guy did a good job and had the lawyer on the line right there.

I need to learn this instant attourney setup.

Have a lawyer on retainer. All you need to do is find a good one, give him/her $100, and get a receipt. Make sure you have their card where you can get quick access to it. It's just extra insurance. That way, if something like this happens, you can stand your ground with a lawyer on the phone, just like this guy did. The very first thing I would ask is "Do you have a warrant? No? Go pound sand!"

Above is good advice. But you don't have to have a lawyer on standby, not a bad idea but not required. If the cops ask for permission to enter, they really are asking. If they are coming in anyway, you'll know that as well. Family services differs from stated to state, they are the ones that were the main "force" in this raid. 4th doesn't apply to them, or to cops acting as their agents in a purely escort fashion. Always remember though that the rules can't be reversed. If the police use family services to try to get them in, the 4th applies due to family services being an agent of the man at that point.

Always exceptions out there, but good rule of thumb.
