In my area most shots are usually taken at less than 150 yards. That makes my Marlin 336 .30-30 the perfect rifle for me.

Nothing flashy, a pre-64 Model 70 in .30-06. It was manufactured in 1947and still has the original stock........ only change is someone added a recoil pad. It is a tack driver and really likes 165 Nosler Accubonds.

I have used a lot of different rifles and handguns over the years but lately one favorite has surfaced. I put this one together for my wife (who unfortunately will probably never hunt again as being recently diagnosed with ALS). I purchased this Remington Model 700 SPS Stainless Synthetic slightly used. She thought it was too long so I had the 24" barrel shortened and recrowned at 18 1/2". I added a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40mm Firefly Riflescope. A lady my wife used to work with started a Hydrographics business. We talked to her at the Farm and Home show a year or two ago and my wife asked if we could get her stock dipped. She picked out the camo pattern (Kings Shadow Grass) and it was to be.

165gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with Varget shoot great out of this .308. However the recoil is a little stought for my wife and granddaughter so I took a recipe straight from the Hodgdon Youth Data using 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with H-4895. To date this rifle with the 125's has accounted for 3 or 4 one shot kills.

I have yet to take a Whitetail with this .308 but home to next season as this .308 will always have a place in my rack.

To me the platform is just as important as the caliber
For stalking and scouting I use a Rem 7600 carbine in 30.06
In a stand I like the Savage 110 in 243
in the swamp wading I like the AR 15
long distances Weatherby 30.06
none of them have let me down yet
