Crapshoot,
If you had ever been in the boy scouts you would know that 1400 is when the sun is out and the little hand is on the 2 and the big hand is on the 12.

Pup just arrived and got his license at Wally WOrld a few minutes ago.

See you when you get here.

Thanks for a good time. I kind of lost touch with you guys after Mike kidnapped me and took me to Bowie. That boy can blow a call. Any way how did you guys fair today? We went up through San Manuel but between the wind and the no trespassing signs we gave up and went on home. Thanks again, Tony.

Crapshoot,

Well Mike45 and I saw the 3 dogs in the AM on the 1st stand that hung up at 500 yards with no shot and 10 mule deer on the 3rd stand, the rest of the day and afternoon were, spent taking the guns for a walk, they needed the exercise. Mike45 thanks for showing me how to use that open reed call, sorry we couldn't find more to hunt but I had a great time walking the guns with you. We only hunted Saturday. How did the rest of you make out?

First off I've got to send a big thank you to Onefoot and Mike McDonald. They were gracious hostes. One foot especially took a big step forward with written instructions on the hows and wheres to hunt most of the southern end of Arizona. Thank you fellas.

I was only able to hunt on Saturday but was glad to thave that oppertunity. First thing in the morning I teamed up with Dogonner and Wild Bill. We went up to Mescal and hunted along the Rail Road tracks back to the east until we got to Benson again. The coyotes were very vocal, barking and howling on almost every stand. They were laughing at us is what they were doing. THere was only one coyote called when I was with Doggonner and Wild Bill. We were set up in a lazy triangle and this sneaky devil coyote actually ran right through the middle of the triangle. No shot was offered but we did call one. We took a liesurely pace until we got near the Benson airport and Bill and Dennis found that they had rather urgent internal needs that only a proper bathroom could take care of. And this is where the story takes a different turn. Just west of the airport the country absolutely screamed "COYOTE" at me I flagged the brothers Bill and Dennis down (they were in their own vehicle following me.) and attempted to get them to do just one more stand. But their urgency had increased to the point that there was absolutely no way that they could wait so I bid them ado and proceeded to set the stand myself. Things weren't oting as smoothly as I'd hoped. The ground sort of broke up into little washes and the tree wouldn't give my ladder a comfortable fool hold (tilted an soft under one foot). So I simply moved it out into the wide open and climbed aboard. The first scream sounded good and I could tell that the sound was carrying well. The second scream was one of those worbling desperate affairs, the third producted a coyote. I saw it at mid scream running along one of the little washes in front and to the right. It disappeared into a wash, I got ready, it popped out at about 25 yards and I took it at about 20 yards. Cool ............ I wandered back to the truck did another blank but interesting stand and headed back to the gathering location.

I was very surprised to find out that nobody else had taken a coyote yet. ..... Well we stood around and talked callin' for a while. But the hunter in me got the best of me so I corraled a couple of willing callers tonlocus and partner Kirk(Thanks Tony) and sprinted down to Bowie for a few stands. I was so focused on getting going that I darned near did some serious body work on my truck, not once but twice before I got onto the interstate. We did not call a darned thing but I had a very good time with these two fellas. Tonlocus likes a good debate and his partner is more the quiet type, both with good sences of humor and an excellent grasp of who they are.

Loc: shhhhh.. I'm hiding..
I spent the day hunting w/ Onefoot. We had a great time. We started out the morning w/ a great calling ratio. 2 coyotes called in 3 stands.

The first one we called in right behind some cattle. Onefoot was off to my left about 10 yds w/ his 22 Hornet, and I was packing the 12ga Mossberg. Onefoot started the stand w/ a howl and then I picked up the distress calls. About 3-4 min in there's a coyote standing about 65 yds at my 10 o'clock. Onefoot got the hairs on him and pulled the trigger, nothing. Mr coyote heard the safety come off and started to turn. Then I made the rookie mistake of not barking to try and stop him, but I instead stood up to get a shot over the prickly pear cactus I was behind. That's when I realized he was outside my comfort zone w/ the 12ga.

The next one we set up Onefoot's AZDEN remote ecaller and let it do the work. Dang, I like that setup. About 10min into our stand I hear a "Bang! SH*T,SH*T,SH*T!!!" Needless to say, I think he missed, so I start doing a few coyote distress hoping he may get a second chance or another victim. Well I came to find out after the stand that the ridge on which our furry friend offered a perfect broadside shot, was quite a bit further than it looked. Onefoot held over for about a 200 yd shot and ended up kicking up dirt 8" or so below our now very scared coyote. Apparently that 22 Hornet drops dramatically when trying 300yd shots.. hehe.. The rest of the day was spent w/ his 22-250 in hand.

Unfortunatly, we didn't have any other takers the rest of the day until our last stand. After a 20min stand w/ nothing happening, I popped the reed from my AP8 in my mouth and started some kitten mews. Kevin told me after the stand that 2 sets of fox ears popped up out of the tall grass we were calling in, but just wouldn't move any closer, and eventually disappeared.

It was wonderful weather, a little warm at times but managable for those of us used to calling in the desert heat. Great company, we got to meet up w/ quite a few members who were unable to make it to the globe hunt as well as some familiar faces.

I'd like to thank Mike McD. and Onefoot for the planning of this little shin-dig as well as Onefoot's company and expertise in the field. He's a great guy and I look forward to my next visit to the in-laws down there so I can hook up w/ him again.

A big thanks to Onefoot and Mike McDonald for hosting this shindig. We went out Sat morning with Michael J. He did some fine calling on several stands but with no action other than those dogs laughing at us from just one more ridge down. Had one sneak through us in some heavy ground cover with just a flash or two of ears and head. Dennis and I had to answer mother natures call around noon time so missed Michaels next stand. We went out Sunday morning with Onefoot and found some great stands but the WIND got the best of the deal. Saw a great looking mule deer buck with a couple of does that got Onefoots attention. Overall we had an enjoyable trip and really liked seeing some old friends and make a few new ones. On the trip home we stopped in T or C to play some golf, during the round had more Coyote action than the rest of the weekend. We saw two rather well fed dogs taking a leisurely stroll along the fairways. Will keep in touch with the chat and look forward to the next hunt. Wild Bill and Doggoner.
