I'd like to announce the second annual Tom Mix hunt to be held on Groundhog Day February 2, 2002 (oops turned over another year on me, How do you edit the topic post, thanks Jason).
I fully realize that this is fairly short notice and it was not very long ago that we had the first annual PM hunt in Globe. This idea came about somewhat due to popular demand. This is a fun hunt and is not intended to be the sort of event that the Globe hunt was. If you'd like to gather, rub elbows with fellow hunters and generally have a good time ... well ... Come on down and join us.
Why February 2, 2001:
1 - I need some time to get ready.
2 - There are already several predator related events scheduled in January for the state of Arizona.
3 - Most of the remaining days in February are booked up with general Javelina seasons. Predators can be hunted during these times but are restricted to the use of shotguns shooting shot only (maybe rimifres also but I can't remember right now and if you follow my writings I don't like rimfires for use on coyotes).
4 - A predator/varmint hunt kind of has a nice ring to it on Groundhog Day.
5 - March is way to late in the year for an event such as this.
Feel free to wade in here and fire away with ideas, suggestions and anything else that youd like to contribute. Things are not set in stone but Feb. 2nd is about the only day available. Please let us Know here if your planning to attend.
What do we have planned ... well .... nothing realy but as posted on the origional thread:
Well, put it this way, - I'll cook some, - I'll hunt some, - I'll be there until everybody leaves. - As far as setting up hunts are concerned, if someone tells me how they have done it and been successful at it, I'll do it. - Donations for prizes will be accepted. I can't put it any plainer than that.
I'd sure like to find out how to properly flesh a hide for the effort though.
As far as moon phases are concerned, "I don care bout no stinkin' moon phases, mannn."
Michael

Michael. Feb 2 kinda blows it for me. That is such a short time away, I am not sure that they could even approve vacation for me in time Sorry, was wanting to go to Arizona again, really bad, considering the temp here in NE. Michael, Email me at JManes2021@aol.com />I would like to send a small something in support of this anyhow. Once again, nobody is sorrier than I.
Happy Hunting.

Sorry dude, can't be helped. I looked at March some but the animals are mostly call shy and the weather will be starting to get kinda warm. Interest kind of starts to slip and the fur gets ugly. Huntin' in the desert ya know how it is.

Well... IF its held at Tom Mix Rest Area it will be halfway between Tucson and PHX, just South of Florence, AZ... Personally I think its up to the organizers where it will be held this year... If Michael and Bill have a better place I'm sure its open for discussion...

Well, at this time I'm thinking (only thinking) Tom Mix again. However I did hear some grumbling last year that it was not the best place for some. I also heard that it was the perfect place. Give some suggestions between now and Wednsday morning. However Wednsday morning I will swing the big heavy organizers gavel and announce the location.
I have thought that maybe someplace closer to I-10 might be better. But I'd like to find a quality meeting place like the Tom Mix spot. Again suggestions, suggestions, suggestions.
One sugestion. For years the three clubs participating in the multiple club competition hunt would meet at Park Links DR (about 20 miles north of Tucson, just off Interstate 10). This year they are having or had the meet in a location that made it impossible for any of the SAWC to attend (No problem there We haven't had much of a showing for years). This spot has not been used this year and it is a possibility.

Kinda "Hub" Like with good roads going most directions.

After discussing the pros and cons of the hunt site with Michael the meeting location for the hunt will again be at the Tom Mix monument. Now that the site is set, who is coming?

Now that the big Coordinators Gavel has been swung lets get down to it.
Last year one of you out there posted a dandy map that showed the location very well. Since I have no idea how to post a picture I'd appreciate it if you or someone else could post a similar map again.
Also suggetsions on how you'd like this to go. Last year Leonard indicated that a sort od round robin, pick names for partners, mix-em up hunt would be fun. What do you think. I know that I would enjoy to hunt with someone other than my usual take him for granted huntiong partner. It gets boring with him. You know call for a while BANG, dead coyote, call for a while BANG dead coyote ........ all day. It'd be okay if the SOB would miss a few and give me a shot. Or have a why I missed him story .... nooooo its always just BANG dead coyote .... gets boring (for those that don't know, this last has been a joke at the expense of my good friend, darned good shot and infrequent poster Bill). So what do you think?

Well guys, I'm the perfect partner.
Did you hear the one about me getting up to retrieve the caller and coming face to face with a shocked looking coyote? And then throwing the rifle up to my shoulder, only to find that I had snapped the scope covers on? Yep, I'm just the kind of hunting partner you are looking for. More the "Bang-Dammit" type sometimes.
But I do know how to cook burritos on an intake manifold.

PM Hunters I am new to this thing so please bear with me and try to not laugh so hard you hurt yourselves. About the hunt, can anyone join you in this hunt or is it an invite only affair? Do you require a "screening" of the "newbies"? What are the "unwritten" rules? And a thousand other questions that go with asking for an invite but trying not to intrude on someone else's fun. I know this is rather bold but don't know how else to ask. Mr. McCasland, can you help me here? Email me at Dennis.M.Harmer@Intel.com if you have the time. It would be kindly received regardless of your answer. Thank you all for any help. Doggoner

Doggoner - I would be glad to answer your questions off line, but I think that this is an important thing for ALL to hear. For this gathering All are welcome to come. Bill and I do not send an open invitation to everyone and become selective as to who is good enough to attend. If you have the legal right to hunt and you are inclined to come on out to Arizona, you are welcome to hunt, simple as that. The only thing that I expect of you is finding a way to get here (oh yea, if you are planning to hunt you also need a hunting license).
We fully understand that this is a quicky, no time to plan for it hunt. So we are pleased at the positive responces so far.
Encore - Everyone should know that they are welcome to eat a piece of my cooked bacon (or semi -cooked as the case may be), they are welcome to a piece of my mind, over the past few years I've had a piece of my soal eaten publicly on the internet and heck they can even have a piece of my brass (as long as you give it back afterward), but I draw the line at eating a piece of me.
Michael

Mike
You have answered my main question, that was who is or isn't welcome. All I was looking for was an invite to the dance. I'll cut my own rug when I get there. Being new I was just trying to ease in without being a brassy a**hole. You have set any fears I may have had to rest. If at all possible, I will attend. As for encore's raw bacon fetish--- I'll pass. Thanks again for clearing the "air" for me.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out on my end. Hope to see some more of you guys that I didn't get a chance to meet here in Globe. Later, Jeff

Workin' on a schedule so I'll throw it out to you fellas. Would you like breakfast before daylight or at daylight? I've been thinking that we'd put names in a hat and draw for teams. This might make it a little more interesdting. Hunting with new people can be an education. Also if there's any new callers that want to be teamed with experienced callers that will also be arranged. I'm thinkin' that this will be a simple fun hunt sorta gathering with some friendly competition mixed in. Any ideas? I'd also like to collect as many hides as is reasonably possible (not a hard rule and only if you are willing). If you don't want em' I'm sure that someone would be willing to take them. If not I'll see what I can do to get the hides to the Arizona Trappers Association. I usually try to donate as many to them as I can. The ATA can use all the help that they can get.
For reference, if you fellas want to eat before daylight we are talking about serving at or about 6:00am. For a daylight feeding the time moves up to about 7:00am.
The meal will consist of
-Juice
-Scrambled eggs
-Beacon
-Coffee, Well I still have instant from last year, hot water will be available for that.
-I'll have some tobasco, salsa (if you'd like to bring your own that would be nice).
-Tortillas and bread, butter, salt pepper.
-What am I missing? Holler out if you can think of anything. If you'd like to donate some game meat well I'll cook that up as also.
Also a big thanks goes out to Tackdriver. I recieved a nice little donation and that will be going to the food that you all are going to eat.
So far I have this list of people that indicated that they are interested:
1-Michael J McCasland (me) 2-Bill 3-Robb 4-Mike McDonald 5-Hoenetfan (You are welcome to come on in and eat with us, no Country Kitchen problems here my friend) 6-Doggoner (hopefully) 7-Daryl (possibly) 8-Rich in Mo 9-Tyler 10-Bluedeacon (possibly) 11-Mike in AZ
Anyone else please jump right on in here.
Michael P.S. Hey is anybody going ta show me how to flesh or not?
Please keep comming back here for information. I keep updating this area as I go. However if there is any major changes I will repost. WHAT!!!! Snow in Arizona??? can't be.

Dude, I think I still have mud on the undercarriage from that day...
Took me 10 dollars and the car wash to just get the mud off the outside. Musta been 4-5 inches thick on the OUTSIDE of the fenders behind the wheels.
It was the Dodge Ram "Adobe Bauers, Limited Edition" that day !

Oh my golly I just realized that I have to finalize the plans for you folks. Food will be served at 6:00am at the Tom Mix Monument. Directions listed above by our good friend Encore. If you are late ... well big deal if you are late ... I will be glad to feed you anything that is left.
Special requests - Last year I only had one lantern. I did not like having everybody standing around in the dark, we will have a few more lanterns this year, but if you have a lantern I'd like you to bring it along to light up the night. We will also have a couple of camp stoves but just in case, if you have a stove bring it along. I don't want to have cold, half cooked food this year. I am not going to cook on the campground/rest area fireplace this year but I'd like to have a fire in it any way. If you have any fire wood available, bring it along, as we all know its always nice to have a fire going and it might be a little cold this year.
Does anyone else plan on coming? For food planning purposes, if you are planning to attend and have not stepped up please do today. If you don't step up now but want to come anyway .... that’s cool come and join us .... if you'd like to eat please bring eggs and bacon to throw into the pot. Also if you have kids that would like this sort of thing, please bering'em along. I think that it would be fun to have a few kids around for this hunt.
Michael

Micheal, I spoke a little prematurely about bringing my lantern and camp stove. I went out to my shed and, you guessed it, no latern or stove. Seems my neighbor borrowed it a couple months ago and he's out of town for the weekend.
Time to impliment plan "B". Go for the 12V RV light I use in the pits during racing season with a big gel cell. Got the light, now where the heck is my battery charger? Same neighbor borrowed it and hasn't returned it either! GRRRR.....
I did manage to get a milk crate full of mesquite I usually throw on the BBQ and I am bringing some goodies for prize drawings.
See you there!
