We started with 22 shooters and 13 of them made it to the second round. After the second round we were down to 7 shooters. Each one was allowed to shoot 1 shot within 1 minute to see who moved on. Nobody was successful so another round was done. At the end of that round only 1 shooter was successful at hitting it. Matt Nix (1953) had won the egg shoot. Another shoot off was done with the 6 remaining shooters to determine 2nd and 3rd place. After that round, the only hit was Mark Worden (Reb8600). Now it was time for 3rd. Another round with the 5 remaining shooters was done and Kerry Carver (Carvercalls) was the only one to hit an egg.

I was using a Remington 700 ADL in 204 with a Leupold 3-10 Vari X III on it.

Kerry was using a 6 WOA built by Scott (Specialized Dynamics) topped with a Premier scope.

I dont know what the first place shooter was using other than it was a 22-250.

I'd like to practice that egg shoot... what exactly is it...? Shooting from sticks, and chair at an upright standing egg at 150 yds...?

You can sit on whatever type chair you like and use shooting sticks that are not attached to your gun. The butt of your gun cannot rest on the chair. The eggs are hot glued to golf tees and are standing on a pre-drilled rack that holds them upright and it is set-up at 150 yards.
It so easy that cave men can do it...... until the final shoot-off starts. Once the shoot-off starts if you want to get an idea of how it is run a 100 yards uphill and then sit down and shoot.

The first round you get 5 minutes to shoot 5 shots trying to break it. If you do, then the second round is 3 shots in 3 minutes. After that it is one minute for 1 shot. You miss and you are done unless nobody hits. Like Venatic said, run 100 yards then try to shoot. That would give you the feeling of being in the finals.

Ahhhh, the Egg Shoot...

I dialed my super whiz-bang AR in with my Nightforce scope, and was driving tacks the day before at the range...

My confidence was HIGH the day of the Egg shoot as I tried to imagine just where I was going to put my newly won Egg Shoot gun... The smell of victory was oh so close. cool

With my name being called to the firing line, I strode forward and took my position on the firing line where I sat down, set up, and proceeded to miss all 5 shots at the stupid Egg. lol lol

Yes, I choked, and did so in grand fashion. blushing

I had a great time and am always amazed to see the last 3 men standing when the egg shells fall.

Congratulations to Matt, Mark & Kerry. You fellers put on a FINE demonstration of marksmanship.

I can't wait for next year. thumbup

Ditto on what Jeff said...I had weighed and measured each round, practiced during the week before the shoot and just knew that I was ready..Then all five shots just a little high...

The wind was actually blowing right to left almost full value about 5-8 mph during the shoot. Later it moved more toward an over the right shoulder quartering almost tailwind and picked up to 10-15mph.

Letting the cat out of the bag a little early aren't ya? I thought that strategy was going to be top secret all year long as we practiced our 150 yard shotgun patterns. grin
