Has anyone tried 8208 XBR, I think the burn rate would be perfect for the caliber with midweight bullets, but have not seen anything on the Hodgdon's websight. T.S.

I have tried it, but not with a gun with a strain gauge or transducer attached (one quick attempt that was less than stellar). Accuracy and velocity were both good with the 62 gr. Berger. I want to load some of the 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips and shoot them in the rifle with the strain gauge.

I have been trying it with 65 gr Vmax but have not run it across a chrony yet. I did find a load that shot excellent, a .503 5 shot group and am going to try it again. I will put it across the chrony also when I do.

I loaded several groups with different bullets and 8028 last night. I have loads with the 55gr. NBT, 62gr. Berger, and 70gr. NBT. I will try to shoot them this weekend.....if this snow quits.

I tried 24.3 grains of H335 behind a sierra 85 gr HPBT in my savage. 3/8" groups but I haven't tried to see if it'll do it all day long. Around 2600 FPS out of my 18" barrel.

60 grain Sierra Varminters HPs, 27.2 gr Benchmark. cci 400 primer. COnsistancy is very good, always under MOA 5 rd group if I do my part. Primers indicate this load is getting a little hot. Have no issues through 250 rds. I like these bullets because they are not as streamlined as the MKs. The ogive is more forward and the HP allows me to reach the lands and still fit in the mag. Only bullet that will do that thus far.

John,

If you have access to Handloader magazines, I wrote a feature article on the 6X45. The name of the article is Kimber's 6X45 - A Sensible Wildcat and it was published in Handloader Issue 131, January-February 1988, pages 48 to 52.

I assure you that I'm one of the honest gunwriters, one who actually shoots. All of the data I listed in the article was carefully developed at the range and it was safe in the three rifles I borrowed from Kimber of Oregon. One of the rifles shot so danged well that I bought it.

My 6X45 article was re-printed in that huge and wonderful book by Wolfe Publishing, Wildcat Cartridges - Volume II. It appears in its full published version on pages 857 to 859.

Interestingly enough, Wolfe Publishing screwed all of their writers when publishing Wildcat Cartridges - Volume II. We sell "first publishing rights" to our articles and if the piece is re-printed, the publisher is lawfully obliged to pay for any subsequent publishing. Wolfe absolutely did not pay for re-publishing. That was about the last time I trusted an editor.

If you are unsuccessful in finding my 6X45 article, just ask and and give me your physical address; I'll send you an autographed hard-copy by snail mail, with my total compliments.

Good luck with the load book on this fabulous cartridge.

Best wishes,

Steve Timm

I think there is an explanation on the first page of the document and IIRC it is interpolated data.

By the way I have some limited data for the 6X45 with the new AR Comp powder that I worked up if someone is interested.
