HUNTING AREA!

You will have access to millions of acres. Ether BLM, State, or Natl. Forest.
This runs from the southern New Mexico border, south of Las Cruces to the Gila Wilderness Natl. Forest North of Las Cruces....It runs West of Las Cruces for over 75 miles & runs North-South 150 miles. (Approx. 12,000 square miles of lightly called, if at all land ranging from rolling terrain to mountainous)

The roads are mostly good, graded roads that you will be hunting off of, so 4WD isn't required in most areas. If you are renting a car, I think I'd get a truck, or SUV type though.

Maps to the hunting areas are available here...........www.publiclands.org

If you have a GPS there are two sponsors of Predator Masters that have maps available for those... http://www.huntinggpsmaps.com/ or http://www.koutdoorproducts.com/

***Please feel free to direct any of your questions to our new Hunt Coordinator, Terry Bates, a.k.a. 220_swift

A potentially stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway: Would this be a worthwhile trip for someone who has extensive big game hunting experience, but has only recently decided to pursue predator hunting?

I haven't even gone on a predator hunt yet. My interest came from researching ways to hunt with my 2 year old son in the future without breaking the bank like big game is starting to do. Now I'm hooked on it without even going.

In short, I'd love to attend so that I can begin learning as much as possible, but if this is an event geared toward experienced hunters, I get that. But if members think it would be a worthwhile trip (I live near Dallas), I'm on board.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

WEK,,,Come on to the Hunt.. I run a "Hook Up" thread in the topic under the Hunt thread and we'll get you with someone that has some experience, at least for a morning or a day and then we can play it by ear...If nothing else, I'm usually free in the mornings and you can go with us...I just need to be back at the motel about 2PM to meet the guys checking in..

There are a great bunch of guys that attend and most are willing to help get a "newbie" started..

Check your PMs...

In short, heck yeah! There are many experienced callers at these conventions that go out of their way to share their knowledge. You need only show up and watch/listen. And as OT said, it shouldn't be too hard to get in a truck with a relatively experienced caller to put boots on the ground and get some firsthand experience of your own.

Sounds good. I can definitely listen, and right now it looks like I should be able to show up.

Love the quotation in your sig, by the way.

I won't make it this year, but when I do go I make an effort to find people to take out. I'm not the best but I'm not a newbie, either.

Go. Meet people. Have fun. Use the hookup thread to make some arrangements in advance. You might not get to kill a yote, but you will get to meet people, eat good food, get out & hunt the desert southwest, prolly encounter the border patrol daily, etc.

Buy some extra tickets for the drawings. 2 years ago I didn't & didn't win much. Last year I bought a bunch more & got drawn for some nice stuff. Both times I had a freaking BLAST!!!

Haven't been before, but seriously considering this year. What is the timeline of events at the hunt? I saw the dates but not much else. If my calendar is right it starts on a Thursday. Is that a hunting day or more like a check in and have dinner type of deal and hunt Friday-Saturday?

Thursday is the first night of the banquets. You can hunt and do as you please on any of the days. Then the evenings for Thursday,Friday, and Saturday you want to come in a little early so you can make the dinners and events.

You can hunt or not hunt as much as you want at this event.

There will be several of us arriving on Sunday the 5th and hunting all week long.

...Officially the Hunt/Convention is Thur-Sat, but if you call the motel and ask about a "Weekly" rate (Sun-Sat) the cost is almost down to the 3-4 night rate total...

I usually check in on Sun and stay thru Sat night and that lets me justify driving all the way down there (normally 1200 miles, but this year I'll be coming from FL-MO-NM, about 2500 one way)..plus I have more time to enjoy the area...

Just something to think about...
