Thanks for the info guys. Maybe the next time I purchase I will try leaving my S.S. off of the form and see what happens. My FFL also told me about the UPIN. I don't purchase that many firearms so I am not going to do that. I generally get a Proceed within 24 hours so it isn't a big deal.

So do you hunt hunt coyotes locally? I'll be trying for my first dogs soon. I was wondering if calling is productive at dusk and dawn in this area or if the coyotes are mostly nocturnal. I have seen a few in the area during daylight hours but I have never heard any vocalizations until after dark. What are your experiences in this general vicinity?

This will probably be a silly questions to those of you that are experienced predator hunters but I don't have any experience with night hunting so I have to ask. How do you hunt coyotes at night? Do you have a wide beam light that you use to locate and shoot? Do you use a narrow beam? Do you use some type of night vision device?

us poorer folks use a coon hunting light with a red cover over it. some use different shades but I use red. I have only tried a few times in the daylight with no luck and prefer night time. I also hunt mainly state property and have called in a few coon dogs the nice thing is now they put lighted collars on them so that helps LOL. I have heard them many times while it is still light out (evening) but couldn't get them to commit when it got dark. now that the weather is starting to get cold they will have to hunt more and give us a better chance at it. Did you get a scope on your gun yet
we will have to get together one of these days and see if we can put something together.

No scope yet. I purchased an SWFA kit from a SnipersHide group buy. Waiting for it to arrive. It has the SWFA 3-9x42 scope, Bobro mount, Butler Creed caps, ARD and sun shade. I will probably sell the scope and extras, keep the Bobro. I want to use it to shoot groundhogs and steel so I am leaning toward a 3-15x50. What do you use for coyotes? do you think a 3x is to much scope for yotes? Should I be looking at a 1-4x or something along those lines?

We should definitely get together sometime if you can put up with a noob. I have a couple of places around Sunbury that we could try. Some woods and big fields. I see them every now and then during daylight and I see tracks around the area I deer hunt.

I had to drive to Cincinnati and back on Tuesday. Saw a couple coyotes out in fields mid-day.

I use cheap lights from gadget town. 15 bucks for a 500 lumen light. I put an amber dj filter on one for a scan light and left the other bright white for a shoot light. My buddy has a black and decker spot light that runs on c battery's. It was under 20 bucks at wal mart and works great for scanning.

As far as scope power, I mostly use a variable. One 3x9 one 4x14 and one 4x16. They mostly stay on low power but now and then we hunt fields where the extra power comes in handy.

Thanks for the response. I need all the help I can get. I've got an electronic caller, a gun and thats about it. Maybe on day I'll get a clue about this stuff. LOL.

I am still new to it. I have learned a bunch on this forum. All you can do is get your stuff together and go hunt. See what works in your area.

As far as equiptment; it mostly boils down to personal preference. Some like the low power scopes and some want more power. Some will say the 223 is best and some say a 204. Lights....a gazillion opinions on those here. You get the point.

My fav scope for night time is my Nikon Prostaff 3x9x50. It lets in tons of light and I can see really well with it. And it's the cheapest scope I have.

Main thing for me is to have fun. It's a rush when they do come in to your calls.

I got delayed once years back, The consensus back then was that they just randomly delay people ever so often to make it look like they are doing there job. I got delayed on a Rem 700VS in 223 at a shop about a 1/2hr away from my house. I had to be back in town to pick up my kids from school by a certain time and the shop owner could tell I was getting antsy. Not wanting to see the sale walk he got back on the phone and they told him to go ahead and let me have it. He talked to a completely different person than the one who delayed me about 30-45 minutes after I was delayed. The funny thing is I was in Vances maybe a month earlier and bought 2 contender frames and got approved in 5 minutes or less..I was like nothing has changed in that time whats the problem now?? Thankfully I have not been delayed since.

First and only one I've had a chance at got away, to say the least...long story. Any way, looking forward to hearing good stories and making new friends. God bless.
