Ok, so i am trying to figure out what i will need in terms of clothes for this shin dig, all my cammo is pretty much geared twoards duck hunting in Minnesota, which means cold, crappy and rainy weather.

At this juncture i am planning on a ghille in tan that will work in desert scrub or in the plains in south dakota of some sort, good walking boots, and normal clothes.

So what do i need under the ghille? jeans and a tee shirt?
stuff for weather down to 40 degrees? or all the above and every thing in between?

Thanks, this will be my first trip into the southwest.

As dumb as this sounds, should i plan on rain, or is it so unlikely that an emergency poncho will surfice?

30's in the morning and most likely in the 60's in the afternoons.

Last year I got a sunburn during the daytime, my coveralls were too warm, and had to wear a heavy jacket at night...You will be at about 3500 foot elevation, or higher, so the air is a little thinner...It can snow in the higher elevations...it is February after all...

This year I'm taking my ghillie and lighter weight clothes for the daytime and the heavy jacket for night time wear...Some of my meds promote bone chilling cold...so that's just me..

Layers are good. It'll be chilly in the morning- 30-ish- then warm up. I like to wear a wicking T-shirt, a sweatshirt sort of thing, then a windstopping jacket (the ghillie will help a bunch there). Hat. Sunglasses. Definitely good walking boots, but they don't necessarily need to be insulated unless you have cold feet. You'll likely work up a little sweat walking and the wicking top is important (for me, at least). You want the ability to strip down to a heavy long sleeve T-shirt or light sweatshirt which is why layers are better than heavy jackets.

If you move out of the Las Cruces area up into the higher areas, it'll get colder fast- that's where an additional outer layer or a fleece vest that you can layer inside w/out a lot more bulk will come in really handy. If you have a warm hat or a fleece ear warmer, it'll come in handy at higher elevations.

Something to carry water is good because you'll probably get dehydrated.

You may find this link helpful, It is a sumary for last February.

==========================================================

This link is for a 7 day forcast, for use right before leaving for the hunt.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php...Field2=-106.756

NOAA shows the elevation at Las Cruses as 4570 ft.

Last year I spent a day up in the Sitgreaves and Gila Nat'l Forrest - heavy snow on the ground, real cold and possible iceing on the road - beautiful place...
