Just got my copy of The Varmint Hunter Magazine. Issue 74. Page 65 has an article about varmint bullet penetration or lack of it. It shows how the different bullets react when hitting media. Should help individuals pick the bullet best for their needs. Its good reading.
 
Dear .243:

Although I have not read the article, I could not resist responding...did the author mention what I consider the "best" .224 bullets based on actually killing groundhogs???...:

40 gr. Sierra HP
50 gr. Hornady SX and Sierra Blitz (medium velocity i.e. 222/223 only)
52 gr. Speer

Notice I have not listed any of the "money [ballistic] tips" ...I have tried them and they work OK, but not as well as those listed above and certainly are not worth 30-40% more in cost....
 
The author provides the information and states the varmint hunter needs to interpret the information to decide what varmint bullet is best for their aplication, hunting conditions, cost, etc. Pretty slippery.
