I have been using the Slick Tricks for a few seasons now with compounds and they are hard to beat especially now that the blades are even sharper. With recurves I just stick to Zwickeys.

I have a mixed bag of broadheads. The ones that I have been using for 17 plus years are thunderhead 125. But last year at the end of the season my dad gave me two other ones to try this season and they were the montec 125 and the hellrazzer 125. Have not shot anything with them yet but the first doe that walks buy is going to have the test run on her.

I've been using Muzzy's 3 and 4 blade for a long time. Prior to that the Savora 4 blade which replaced the Bear razorheads with the bleeder blades.

for turkeys I have been using with great success the Magnus bullhead 3" cut, and for everything else, I like the Magnus Snuffer SS. Sharp and easy to sharpen!

Little tiny 100gr cut on contact Sonics.
I've shot them to 55yds and they fly and group right with my practice field points. I don't know of any other broadhead that can do that. Therefore, I don't have to 're-sight' in my hunting blades before going afield...
You might not think they'd kill so well for such a small cutting dia., but I've got no complaints so far and plenty of vension in the freezer...

I been shooting NAP Shockwaves 85 grain for more than five years now and have had nothing but great performance from them no reason to change, I used to shoot 85 grain thunderheads but they didn't group well out of the bow I'm shooting now.

We cant use mecanical broadheads in oregon i dont think i would use them on elk anyway. always had good luck with zwickeys, magnus, thunderheads and this years i'm going to try some silverflames out.
I was talking to some guys today at the archery store about broadheads and one guys said any of these broadheads will kill if you make a good shot i told him i want the one's that will kill with a bad shot and that means penetration.

I shot thunderhead 100's & 125's for 17 years. Last year I switched to slick trick & doubt I look back. As far as shooting, they can't be beat for fixed blades. I only killed two deer with them but had great preformance. We'll see how it goes this year.

I have shot Thunderhead 100' & 125's also. Do you see that much improvment in the slick trick over the Thunderheads? I have considered looking at new tech but it would prob be an expandable if I did change.
What type of Sight are you using? I broke some optics on my tru-glo extream. Tried to replace them and was sent fibers that were to short. Got frustrated and Just ordered the Black Gold from Cabelas.

Magnus Stingers and Buzzcuts, 100g. For my older bow, they fly great and always leave an awesome bloodtrail.

I'm going to go to montecs this year i was shooting crimson talons and they worked well massive blood trails but broke easy. Moseley shot a antelope and a elk with his montec and with a little sharpening he can use it again this year. he shot right threw the round leg bone on his elk and into its heart that's a strong broad head. i hunt elk and will not use a expandable I've seen them fail on big bulls

Been using the steelforce 100 gr sabertooths for the last 4-5 years. Very tough head. Penetrate better than other heads I've used and shoot and tune easily. Only complaint is they are a bit tough to keep sharp. Going to switch back to a replaceable blade type head this year. I've killed a dozen or so elk with wasp hammer sst, so probably back to them.

"Montec" G5's, "Striker" G5's, and "Blackout's" by Redhead!
All three blade heads... work fine on deer using my crossbow. I'd want a wider cutting blade for bigger animals.

My G5 montecs shoot just like my field points. And it is a really solid broad head. My brother shot the leg on a 3d target and hit the rebar and all it did was flatten the tip ever so slightly. The broad head was pushed into the arrow 1 inch. Look out elk shoulders!

c-middleton, I have a few years using montecs now. I bought the new motecs that you can buy replacement blades . They are still fixed blade but.. you can buy extra blades. Anyhow I shot a deer with what I though was a good shoot and it crashed literly down through the path it took . "I mean Crashing" I think because they are a little smaller cutting dia, I think the Holes clotted up and she stoped losing blood. Therefor I lost the blood and the deer . My freind found it a few days later and it ran about 220 yards. Now if those holes didnt close up and clot I would have the deer because you can tell when a deer is hit Hard! Literly crashing tress over. Dave-PA
p.s. Even though I cant hardly afford to buy a few packs I will get the Rage 3 blade this year, I have SEEN THE DAMAGE!

This is really easy to define by facts: A two blade, solid construction, cut on impact, enhanced by serations.Equates into Magnus Stinger, second Zwickey Black Diamond.
I've taken close to 150 big game animals in four countries, most on film, guided folks like Dr. Warren Strickland, Ted Nugent, Dave Watson, Wayne Carelton, Greg Tinsely, etc.
I've been on the course of needed products pro staff since early 80's when I was a pro shooter w/Hoyt along with the likes of Bill Krenz, Judd Cooney, Tim Strickland, Chuck Adams, etc.
FACTS TO BUY MAGNUS BUZZ CUT BROADHEAD.
Why cut on impact, would you rather someone drop a double edge, razor sharp knife in your open palm from 1 ft. vs. dropping and ice pick. The cut on impact is not only gonna cut you more but deeper
Failure in equipment is moving parts.
I tested most of today's broadheads, and still run into hi rep expandables that will partially or on film once, a major mfgr. the broadhead didn't open, the poor buck stopped right under my stand and you could clearly see the wonder head, stillw/ unblommed.
Magnus give a life time guarantee.
Some states, countries, and certain game in certain areas it is MANDATORY, hunter shoot Magnus style broadhead or they don't hunt. Never saw such a sign asking for replaceable or expandable blade broadheads, never will.
Check history, Fred Bear, Ben Peason, OK so you're gonna try and bust me on them being old before newew broadheads, if so Chuck Adams, Judd Cooney, Ted Nugent, me.
Another plus to buy Magnus and you want the to hit arrows most shots at 20 yards you MUST tune you bow. A horrible bow, is desparate need of tuning will shoot great groups w/expandables. An untuned bow, looses lots of energy and arrow performance as well is harder on your gear than a tuned bow. You gear should reflect on each other like this, like having safety gauges.
Last one I'll list and the best. Mike Sohm and Magnus have given broadheads to every kid, physically challenged bowhunters, or Purple Hearts, he has also made many other personal contribution to the honor and healing of our vets through the outdoors.
Google my name and Africa of most any game animal and there'll be the broadhead de jour. Qualify the folks you take advise from and good hunting.

Forgot the #1 advantage about a Magnus fixed 2 blade (sometimes w/bleeders)it is called SECONDARY CUTTING, a term given to the broadheads performance if the game runs off with the broadhead lodged in it. Due to the fact that a three of 4 blade has as many oposing forced on the lateral sides on the blade and cut, the broadhead is basically frozen in place, a two blade type broadhead, is made to saw away at tissue with every step the game makes and the two blades are un apposed, free to continue to slice, ending up in a much sooner recovery and more importand a recovery where with the mult blade broadhead, with opposing force, may have let the animal to crawl off to be eaten by coyotes, because they didn't loose enough blood.
Penetration Angle: If you hunt enough you'll find an arrow striking say an elk angling down ribs or shoulder, here again two blades go through direction not affected, put a 3 blade broadhead and it will seldom be the same, some time completely deflected off of the animal.

i have tried many.
my top picks are as fallows:
1) smoke ramcat : HUGE holes, tons of blood, out penetrates most head i have tried, flys spot on with my field points at 40yds.
magnus buzzuts, g5 striker, ST mags are the others. all fly great, are really sharp, and strong. magnus wins hands down in thw warrente area but im a 1 shot throw away guy and buzzcut holes/ blood trail didnt come close to what the ramcats produced. comparing pin drops to a red carpet. but they did the job fast

Crimson Talon fixed 100gr. Unreal damage, only broadhead that I've ever seen dump that much blood on the ground. My second favorite is the Muzzy 4 blade 90gr.

Rage 2 blade with my compound...Devistating Blood path not trail.I have watched all animals go down before 50 yrds.So if I can have only one single broadhead and one arrow it would be a Beman 400 carbon arrow tipped with a Rage 2 blade Broadhead !!!
100 GRAIN MAGNUS 2 blade and Goldtip arrow 400 with Feather vanes ( carbon as well ) with my 55 pound bear Kodiac Recurve bow...very fast and penetrate very well !!!

Compound bow broadheads...
Stalk or Treestand... Rage 2 blade. I have completely punched through a doe at 50 yards in 6 degree weather. It went through both front shoulders too. Nasty blood trail!
Groundblind mesh windows... G5 Montecs or Magnus Stingers.
Recurve and longbow... you definately want a cut on contact fixed blade. Zwickey, Magnus, etc.

Just noticed there was a bowhunting thread. G5 125gr Striker. Shot the Muzzy MX3 100gr before that. Only switched because at the time(I noticed they do this year) the MX3 did not come in 125gr. The Striker seems to fly better at long distances and is quieter.

Terminators 250 grain yes 250 grain Fly exactly like a fieldpoint and my mathews is the quietest around with them. What will do more damage a semi hitting a deer or a volkswagan bug.

Rage 2 blade!!!!! Shot an eight point in velvet last year, every step he was gushing! Better blood trail than I've ever had with a rifle, no joke! He painted the trees as he was runnin past em, what few he passes lol, he didn't run very far. Rage is the way to go, not a doubt in my mind!

Well, I'm embarrased; on my old PSE Compound (early 80's) I shot Spitfire 125's. I shot those on my Crossbow too. Always killed em dead.
On my Z7 Extreme I'm shooting Rage 2 blades. I have not killed with it yet, but the practice broadhead (doesn't deploy) they include in the package flys exactly like my field tips, maybe even better!
If it would quit raining I could finish hanging my stands!

I was skimming through this thread & was surprised to see my response FROM TWO YEARS AGO (wow someone did some digging) I'm still shooting Slick Tricks & like them more & more. I've never seen a broadhead produce bloodshot under the hide like you see with a rifle, but these do. I've killed 9 deer now with them (ST's) now & have yet to have one go over 60 yards. They do as good as expected around bone & fly just like my feild tips. What's not to like! How many broadheads will do this: Arrow entered between shoulders, hit the spine & ALMOST made it lenthways through the ham. You can still see the arrow in the deer (Head barely poking out in last pic)

I have preformed several tests on broadheads this summer. Shooting from 10 yds at a 3/4" plywood all shot from my hoyt katera shooting 304 fps all broad heads were 100grns. The thunderhead fixed blade shattered on impact, the muzzy penetrated threw with 3" of arrow sticking threw, moved onto NAP 3 blade broadhead was stuck halfway threw, shot my favorite Shuttle T-lock pen. all the way threw with 8" of arrow sticking threw, then whent to mechanicals. Shot the rage 2 blade pen. all the way threw and shredded my flechings off, shot the shwacker blades cracked after pen. threw 2 inches sticking threw. So for a fixed blade def the shuttle T-lock, for mechanicals the rage 2 blade. Thats my 2cents on this discussion.

Were you in an elevated stand if so what distance was it. That's a weird travel route Yep. I was 22 ft high, she was ~20 yards. She don't look big in the pic but she was an old smart heffer that had busted me 2 times in a row o0n prior hunts. When I shot she was facing me with head up stomping (about to go). It was weird angle of travel. I guess it ran down the spine a bit changing the angle. Either way... she didn't like it. I was very surprised when I seen it started out the back... I shoot a 30.5" arrow by the way & you can't see the knock... That's a lot of penetration considering it broke her spine

Just killed a nice fat doe tonight using the Slick Trick Grizz Trick. Drilled her at 20 yards at an extreme angle, knocked out one lung, clipped the top portion of her heart and smashed her far shoulder. Needless to say she piled up at maybe 40 yards from me. Oh and lots of blood. Im impressed! Broad head stayed intact which is important for me, I dont care to dig around for a razor blade inside a deer.

Whacked deer #2 yesterday evening using the Slick Trick Grizz Trick. Nice 8 pointer with 18 1/2 inch inside spread. Prolly 200lb. on the hoof. Shot him at 35 yards, hit him in right shoulder at an angle and took out a lung, not sure on further damage because I was in a hurry, and he didnt go 30 yards before giving up the ghost. REALLY starting to like the Slick Tricks!

Rube,
I know several very good bowhunters who use Slick Tricks. I had my choices narrowed down to them and G5 strikers and went with the G5s because I prefer a 3 blade. Both are great heads IMO.

Just laid another buck to rest tonight with the Slick Tricks. 11 pointer, 240lb. on the hoof and didnt even make it 30 yards before giving up the ghost. Only one other broad head even came close to this performance and that would be the 2 blade rage. Killed 3 deer so far using these broad heads and none ever made past 40 yards. Thats with my experience. I do believe I am now a die hard Slick Trick fan from now on!

Shot placement was a problem on the third deer. I just flat blew it. No excuses just a bad hit. I found it a week later. The rest were out to 25 yards, arrows tucked behind the shoulder. No blood at all on 3 of them. The other left good blood for almost 40 yards and just quit. Shootin a 75 pound bow I had one pass through on a doe at 35 yards with the rage. Dropped within 20 yards. That was my one and only kill with them. Muzzy hasn't let me down yet. Every deer dropped within 40 yards. 0 losses. I'll stick with the Muzzys! Oh and by the way Tim, I consistently shoot 4 inch groups at 70 yards with the same setup I hunt with. Practice aint the issue.

Must be bad luck. I run 3 blade Rages as does my wife and blood has NEVER been a problem.
I used to be a Muzzy fan till I discovered Slick Tricks . ST just plain work. Have a mixed quiver of Rage and ST's,depends on my mood that day.

I've heard the 3 blade rages work perty good but just have a bad taste in my mouth after this season. Two guys from work use Slick Tricks and have great luck with them. They just didn't group as good out of my bow. Plenty good enough to kill a deer but the muzzys shot better for me.

I have shot the 2 blade rage since they have came out , they are real bad , makes tracking a breeze , However my hunting buddy has a mathews bow , not a z7 , but one from the year before and he has lost 3 big bucks with the rage , after shooting them at a actual deer target , we found out his bow is too fast for them they did not open they only punched a feild point hole through the target , they seriously did not open , however with my buckmasters split limb bow at 70 pound pull they never failed on the target or deer ...just a little FYI ...If your shooting those top notch fast bows lookout !!! if so better shoot the 3 blade muzzy !!!

They say close only counts in Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. Rage should fall into this category as well?!?!
I shoot Rage 2" 100grain Broadheads and everything i have hit goes down.
I shot a 52lb Javelina nthis year and it jumped the string at 30 yards and i got mit in the right hind quarter and it took out the hips and cut a major artery.
I shot Muxxy at one time but lost faith in their product & ownership! Rage is all i shoot now.

100gr. wasp sst. 2 mule deer, 1 bear and several whitetails. They are not very tough. After I shoot a deer with one, I save it and use it for spring turkeys or tree rats. Would like to find a tougher broadhead but a cant seam to get anything to fly as good as these?

Would like to find a tougher broadhead but a cant seam to get anything to fly as good as these? Slick tricks are very easy to tune for great flight and the all steel construction is very durable. I have to change blades after a kill but never had a problem with the rest of them. I did have to file 1 tip after a pass-thru and a direct hit on a rock though.

I use to shoot rage. I couldn't believe how dull the blades were brand new. They cut a big hole but I didn't find them sharp at all. I switched to grim reapers much sharper fly like a field point cut a big hole also.

I started way back in the early 70's and was shooting traditionally and was using the bear with the bleeder blade....good broadhead....then when I switched to a compound bow I used wasps....sharp....but not alot of blood trail. I switched to 100g thunderheads and have had excellant results nationwide w/ alot of different species. Then came the Rage commercials...and I bought into them....used the 3 blade for 1 season....shot 4 different animals (including 1 beneath my stand) and never got a pass thru and never found the animals. Switched back to the Thunderheads and couldn't be happier.....[beeep] marketing schemes...lol

Unless I hit soild spine, I only get pass throughs with 3 blade Rage. Heck my wife just about always gets a exit hole, she shoots 50#s.

G 5 montec for me. They always need sharpened out of the box though. I use the cs version.
I am not a huge bow hunter, I have only killed six or so deer with them. Lousy blood trails, but the deer have always dropped within sight, so I guess blood trails don't mean much then.

3 blade Rage for me. I've had nothing but good clean kills with them, and they truly do fly like a field point. When I moved up to a very fast shooting set up, I could no longer find a fixed blade that would shoot worth a darn. Otherwise I probably would have stuck with 100gr. Muzzy's, which is a darn good broadhead as well.

I'm not completley sure, but I think that the first Rage's to roll out had a lot of problems. Seems like most of the early adopters had nothing but problems. I only started using them a couple years after they hit the market, and could not be happier.

I bought a pack of rage crossbow heads. Sighted my crossbow in off of a bench and shot half inch groups at 20 yds with the included practice head. Shot better than field points. Tried an actual cutting head and it shot 8 inches to the upper right. Shot the cutting head three times, 2 inch group, 8 inches to the upper right. Scope went bad I figured.
Put the practice head back on, and it went right back to bullseye. Tried the remaining cutting heads, and they flew perfectly. Must have been a fluke bad head, but I lost my faith and returned them.

Last 6 bull elk, one cow and one calf with Grim Reapers. Nasty little broadhead. Never had one fail. Thinking strongly about trying the Swhacker 100 Grain 2" on elk this year. Tried testing Rages and found they deflect about 90% of the time on plywood 60 degrees or greater. Dont trust a broadhead that deflects on quartering shots since that is the shot of choice.

Zwickey Black Diamonds, also have Eskimos but have never killed a deer with one. Have some of the single-bevel Deltas but haven't used them yet, either. No failures with the Black Diamonds, they work.
