I enjoyed my vacation in AZ. although I'd like to have seen it about 25 degrees colder!! Hey, at least callin' probably would've been better. BUT dispite the "balmy" AZ. weather, we still managed to kill a few critters. I hooked up with stormking/Dirk on Friday and we got a single called in on our first stand, just didn't get a shot off. At about 11:30, Dirk was calling the stand with handcalls, a Kerry Carver call for one, and when we started the stand with a two man group howl, we got a vocal response way off in the distance. Stormking went to the rabbit blues and pulled them right on in, on my side! I wasn't sure if he could see them coming from his position at first because he was screemin' away when I could see them coming at about 200 yards, but when they checked up at about 125 yards, and he went to lip squeeks, I then new he had his eyes on them, and he worked them masterfully. I finally took the first standing frontal shot at about 45 yards and got on the second coyote and was trying to bark stop him to no avail, so I rolled him up before he made it to cover. These would be the last critters we got called in that day and then we did some sight seeing. I was hoping to call in a cat, BIG of small, so we dropped into some rocky canyons for a couple of stands, found cat tracks, but never got any called in.

This area called Antelope Flats holds a lot of coyotes, BUT it was a popular spot to a lot of callers, so these coyotes will need a few days to forget everything that they learned in a last week.

(edit) TR- I tried to fix that picture but is says it was deleted from photobucket- yh

It was a good time and I wish I would've had more time to visit with the rest of the guys more. It was good meeting both you Rainshadow and knock'emdown, who also has got a new D-Tech upper coming, lucky duck!! There were a few D-Tech's dressed up in camo that looked just like mine at the egg shoot. I know one of them was a .20 tac. or prac., can't remember which it was.
So knock'emdown, which cal. will you be getting your D-Tech upper in?

Going with the .20TAC, TR. Been considering one for a while and after seeing your DTECH .204 and Venatic's DTECH in 20TAC, I am completely sold on a .20 caliber upper!

Talked with Mike about it and he graciously agreed to do a 20TAC instead of a 243Wizzer . Love my 25Wizzer and it more than fills the niche that a 243 would, so 20TAC it is! We settled on an interesting configuration that I'm VERY excited about. Should be under 10lbs, scoped & loaded and still have plenty of barrel length to keep those Bergers smokin'...

Now I've got to play the waiting game, like everyone else though! This upper is gonna be wicked. Rest assured, your .204 will have another .20 cal DTECH to pal around with next year at Globe

Well, I just took delivery of my .243 wizzer from Mike about 2 weeks ago, so I'll let ya know how they perform as soon as I can get a scope mounted on it. Under 10#'s should be easy enough. My .204 is right at 9.7#'s with the 23" full length fluted barrel plus compensator. Got my wizzer with a 22" barrel plus compensator. You've got enough toys to play with to keep your mind occupied for a few months. Besides, maybe put some eggs out and get some practice in for next year, I'm going to!!! The practice might help us get over that dreaded "egg fever" that kept us from hitting the 300 yarder!!

Hey Ted, you're one of the guys that I'd have liked to visit mroe with. Maybe we'll get a chance to do some callin' together next time. As always, so many stands to do and so little time to do them!!

"EGG Fever" is a very real phenomenon, TR! Before Saturday's shoot, the last egg I shot at was in the 2008 Shoot. I was so emotionally traumatized in 2008, that I just couldn't bring myself to shoot one again until this year...

Those friggin' eggs are scary, but I'll be over it by next year...

Good luck with your 243Wizzer. That is a bad mo-fo too!

This was a TREAT! To get to hang out and hunt w/ TR, one of the original Verminators! TR is a HOOT to say the least. We shared a lot of common tactics and philosophies on coyote hunting. We meshed, well, kinda like beer and peanuts.

One of the coolest things for me was the double we called in. I used hand calls exclusively from PM custom makers, and I'm pretty sure all of TR's were his own.

Here's a recap on the called double:

We started the set w/ a group howl. With immediate response back. I was ripping on a Guy Clark custom horn howler w/ a Loren Reese toneboard. After about 3min of silence, I let loose on the Wounded Weasle, closed reed, wailed out some rabbit distress, I think about 3 series over about 6minutes, then switched to the Carvercalls Ruthless Rabbit cranking out a series of Jack.

I saw the first dog at about 150yds and started lipsqeaking, then the second appeared right behind the first. TR and I we both perched atop 10-12' boulders, he was downwind of me approx 40yds. Immediately, I knew the way these dogs were working, it was going to be TR's show, and I may get a little clean up action. Which was probably a good thing the way I've been shooting lately. TR handled the rifle masterfully and the results are in the pic.

Are you kidding Guy, why would I pull out any of my calls when Dirk can call all the critter in quite well without any of my help. Hey, I can't help it, I like trigger time better than calling time!!!

My pleasure TR! The way I shoot, I'm better off being the wind bag.
