The Azden is powerful enough not to use an amp... From what I understand without an amp is approx. the same as, or similar to, a strong medium range caller, and to add an amp, would make it a very long range caller... But I have also seen a few reports of sound distortion and/or feedback when using an amp with the Azden... I personally, have not used the Azden set-up, so hopefully someone with actual experience can verify or give more info for you...
