General Hunting Regulations, License Requirements, and links

I was asked to give the skinny on the PM hunt for the new guys.

What is the PM Hunt?

What is NOT is a competion hunt. There are no entry fees except for the egg shoot. There are no prizes awarded for most, biggest or smartest coyote. There is a lot of kidding, making new friends, and getting re-connected with old friends.

1. The PM hunt is getting to hunt with guys that you may have been talking to for years on the forums and never actually met.

2. The PM hunt is getting to meet and hunt with guys who are incons of the sport, and it also getting to met guys who are maybe after their first coyote.

3. The Hunt is a great social event with a laid back agenda, and getting to discuss different hunting styles, locales and just about anything you want to talk about.

4. The hunt is about getting to hunt some country that many of us have never even been in, much less hunted in.

Who is going to be there? List of registered members and sponsors

I think you are starting to get the genearl idea.

The hub for the activiities, is the Apache Gold Casino, San Carlos Indian Reservation near Globe, Arizona.

Why there? Well, the original Predator Master, Will Craig was from the area, and that is where the first hunt was held. The area also offers non-residents plenty of land (the rez is over 1 million aceres) to hunt for a minimal fee ($10/day for coyotes, bobcat and fox). It is also has the opportunity for a mountain lion at the bargain price of $10/day plus a $15 lion tag. All res hunting also requires a $5 habitat stamp that is good for the entire year.

The Casino has plenty of motel rooms, a conference room for banquet, about anything else you need.

The guys generally start arrive on Wednesday or Thursday and try to get in a little hunting. The first evening there will be a meet, greet and eat, get your tickets, badges and all that jazz. That will also be the time for socializing and filling you dance card for the next couple of days hunting.

In the evenings there will be a buffet and more socializing in the pavilion with different activities like skinning demos, calling demos and whatever.

On Saturday morning, there is the annual D-tech Egg shoot . This a friendly competition shoot for some great prizes from Mike and other sponsors. This is for hunting rifles, with the playing field leveled by having to shoot off sticks (see the egg shoot rules and posts from past years).

Some will elect to hunt instead of attend egg shoot, but they miss out on some great fun.

Saturday evening is the Banquet. If you have ever been to a DU or NWTF banquet, that is the kind of the idea. We have drawings for all kinds of prizes that have been donated by our sponsors and Custom Call Makers. We also have silent and live auctions just like those other banquets.

Prize donotion list

After the banquet, some will stay and hunt a day or two more, but most have to pack up and head home.

If you will browse the subforums for the past hunts, I think you will get a better idea of what it is all about.

I assure you that the members will make you feel welcome. They will be willing to show a new guy the ropes, or tag along with a crusty old veteran.

Need a guide?

Need a ride, or want to share a room?

You WILL have a great time, meet some great people and make some great friends.

I'm sure I left out plenty.

That sounds great, Yellowhammer, thanks for the info!

I'd assume I'd be good with my .22-250 out there in that country and can leave the 12 ga at home, right?

Bring the 12 gauge. Lots of thick cover to call that is full of coyotes and bobcats.

Is night calling allowed? Or is it all daytime hunting?

If you can't find some type of terrain and foliage that somewhat resembles what you are use to hunting , your not searching ver hard. I remember the first time I met Randy Reeves aka Ragn Cajn. He proceeded to tell me and Jeff Holly was a desolate hole this place was and how when God was making the reservation he must have ran out of ideas. He told us this over lunch. We then split up only to meet up with him just down the road about a mile or so. He said "Why didn't you tell me about this place. This is beautiful. If I had known this was here I would have been hunting this the past 2 days."
Just goes to show you just gotta look. Don't be affraid to try different tactics and even hunt different terrain that you normally wouldn't.

By the way Randy, Are you going to get an AZ coyote this year.

Hey guys,

Just a few more questions as I'm trying to get this trip dialed in.

Is there a group discount room rate at the Rez Casino Hotel and if so how much is it?

Also, do guys sometimes stay at a cheaper places in Globe and drive to the Casino in the AM? I can see the advantage of staying right at the "hub" though.

Phoenix is the closest commercial airport, right? I thought I'd fly into there, rent a car and drive down to the rez.

I'm already real psyched and it is only July!

In the past there has been a PM hunt rate at the Casino and its been much better than you can get in town.I think the price with tax this past year was $62.61 total each night.Yes Phoenix is about 1hour drive if I remember correctly.

The Phoneix airport is about an hour away.

Last year we had a block of rooms with a discouted rate if you reserved eary enough. I don''t know what they rate is. I think it was $50-55/night last year. It is good to share a room to cut the rate in half.

Globe is about 10 miles away from the casino, and if you can do better, you are welcome to. There is also an RV park next door to the casino.

After attending this event a couple of times, I finally found some areas to hunt that produced. I have quite a few of them stored in my GPS in the event that I ever return to Globe.

Thanks guys.

OK, I'm sold on the Rez Casino. I appreciate your help.

I've got a deviated septum from having my nose badly broken and I snore real loud. I'll get a solo room b/c I can't in good conscious subject anybody to that noise facing a morning of hunting!

Who said anything about sleeping?

The only reason you need a room is to have a place to take a hot shower and change your clothes.
