Question about decoys?

I started night hunting for coyotes in Florida to help a friend with a coyote problem. I normally am a night pig hunter so this is new to me. My question is, is using a decoy at night effective?
Thanks in advance.

My decoy experience, in daytime with a Foxjack, is they came at it on a dead run. With good wingshooting skills, you might connect! This was in open field with treelines within 50 yds.

Coyotes can see at night but I'm not sure how good. I've had them run up to about 25 yds from me looking at me the whole time before they stop. I would think by the time they could see a decoy on a dark night you would have a easy shot.

As others have said by the time they see it, they should be dead. If they do react to it, you should be using a shotgun as they will come in too hot. Owls want to attack the call even when not using a decoy.

I live over in Archer not that far from you and have killed over a hundred coyotes on my property.

I have a nice coyote decoy that I use during daylight, I tied a furry rabbit hanging out of its mouth. This works fabulous during the daytime when calling with the FoxPro, but I have never had any luck with it after dark. During the day, they attack the decoy and try to rip the rabbit out of the coyotes mouth.

I hunt coyotes on a large cattle farm just North of the Levy County Sheriff's Office/Jail around Waters Lake just South of Trenton, during the day and night, as well as hogs in the Wacissa floodplain/swamps. Lots of hogs and coyotes over there.

All I know, you don't want a decoy in tight cover at night. It's best to have them wondering what's making the noise.

If they believe it's real they will hit it and run before you can shoot.

My Foxpro Wildfire looked enough like a cottontail rabbit sitting on an old logging road that a bobcat attacked it and was gone before I could shoot. I hide it now in a bush.
