Boar busting story

A buddy and I were calling last week for coyote/fox. I was equipped with my 17wsm for fox and partner was running a 243. On our last set we were walking with my red scan light running. I heard some rustling in the corn stubble. A quick scan out in the stubble revealed 3 hogs, 2 of which were fighting.

Being rendered worthless with my pea shooter I asked my buddy his effective range with the 243. With the mention of 200yds dead on, I gave him the shot. I was guessing the swine right at 200.

I burned them with the Nighteyes kill light and a 100grainer went screaming across the stubble. Whoomp, Reeeeeah, 250lb boar kicking in tracks. We walked out there and he was spined. I put 2 in his head with the 17 nothing. Another 100 grainer sealed the deal. After 4 shots and talking in field for 1/2 hour and switching to white light I look up and boar #2 is running around at 100yds.

I holler for the 243, Having not reloaded since his second shot my buddy was bumbling around. At this point the boar and turned and was on a dead run right at us. Being that I never shot his rifle and in a desperate situation I let him go ahead and shoot. 30 yds away the 2nd boar 175lbs fell to a 100 grainer in his left eye. Never had one charge white light like that before. Thought I'd share the story.

did you guys kill those hogs in Indy? Interesting story. Any picts of the hogs?

At night I believe the light interferes with their vision and they can only see what is lit. I've had them run down the light, not necessarily charging but just trying to get away. I have even caught a couple smaller ones by hand as they ran by. It's funny but they will shy from their shadow back toward the light. Maybe it looks like a black dog to them.
They can be very unpredictable. Several times we have shot 2-3 and put the dogs out to catch a couple more, only to come back with the four wheeler to pick up pigs and jump one laid up close to one of the shot hogs. I guess they get overwhelmed and just hide like when they were little.

Congrats on your two. Bet you'll look for more every time you go out now!
